When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Fitz chats with UFC Hall of Famer Cub Swanson as he gets ready to make his first walk as a UFC bantamweight in October.
Cub has had a decorated career as a pro fighter and is one of the originals when it comes to transitioning from the WEC to the UFC. He has fought all the big names of his era and continues to challenge top prospects and veterans as he winds down his career.
Swanson was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in the summer of 2022 in the Fight Wing for his epic bout vs. Doo Ho Choi in 2016 (which happens to be one of my favorite fights of all time).
Cub will fight Jonathan Martinez at the UFC Apex on October 15th.
