In today’s real-as-hell episode, host Ahren Lynch-Potter sits down with Amanda Siebert, author, integration coach, and total jiu-jitsu badass. They kick things off with how Amanda broke her ankle in competition and spiral straight into everything from pain and recovery to identity and starting over. Amanda talks about how jiu-jitsu flipped her life upside down (in the best way), leading her from a career in journalism to personal training and psychedelic integration work. They don’t sugarcoat a thing, especially when it comes to psychedelics like Ibogaine. In this episode, host Ahren Lynch-Potter opens up about the challenges and breakthroughs he's experienced recently. After hitting the milestone of 100 episodes, he found himself in a creative slump, questioning the direction of his podcast. Despite investing significant time and money into the show, he wasn't seeing the external results he had hoped for. However, the occasional messages from listeners expressing how much they valued his discussions about emotions and personal growth kept him going. Ahren shares a deeply personal story about a challenging period he calls his "dark week of the soul," where he faced intense psychological struggles. This period led to a significant realization and the creation of his new course, "Soul Centered Selling." Through this experience, he learned the importance of embracing all parts of oneself, even the difficult ones, and how doing so can lead to profound personal and professional growth. He emphasizes the value of being kind rather than just nice and the importance of staying true to oneself despite external pressures. Tune in to hear Ahren’s journey of overcoming internal resistance, building a meaningful project, and finding more success and fulfillment in the process. In today’s episode, I had the pleasure of having a captivating conversation with Kit Dale, the fastest grappler to climb the Jiu-Jitsu ranks. He takes us through his fascinating transformation from a skilled actor to a skilled scriptwriter. He also shares how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu came naturally, although focusing on other sports and interests. One of the first things you’ll find out when searching for information on Kit Dale is that he challenges the essence of what many perceive as "traditional" approaches, particularly regarding drilling techniques. Instead, he strongly emphasizes grasping the fundamental principles that underlie these techniques and honing them through live rolling sessions. Unsurprisingly, he has stirred controversy within the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) community, igniting a fervent debate over the necessity of drilling to achieve excellence in this martial art discipline. So, get ready for a lively journey with us as we guide you through the intriguing labyrinth of identity, societal norms, personal health, and our relationship with the food we eat. Who is BE? Based on who we chose to be. BE also founded The Alinker Family Farm, which has been in existence since mid-2019. A company that promotes a healthy life by building a community for people who are isolated and dismissed due to a disability, making activity possible with Alinkers and engaging in conversations about the food we eat, growing the food we eat, building a community by us, for us. When faced with stressful situations, your body responds by entering into fight-or-flight mode, a natural protective mechanism. This mode activates your sympathetic nervous system, triggering an increase in heart rate and blood pressure, muscle constriction, and a temporary halt in digestion. These physiological changes are intended to prepare you to either confront the threat or escape from it. However, prolonged or frequent activation of this response can have negative effects on your well-being. In today's episode, I want to share some valuable tools that can assist you in regulating your nervous system and processing emotions, promoting your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. By incorporating certain lifestyle shifts into your routine, such as exercise and spending time with others, you can navigate stress more smoothly in both your mind and body. Resilience, often defined as the "role of mental processes and behavior in promoting personal assets and protecting an individual from the potential negative effects of stressors," plays a vital role in the lives of athletes. While many athletes tend to view resilience as an innate trait, it is important to recognize that it is actually a set of skills that can be nurtured, developed, and trained through practice. In this episode, I aim to highlight the multitude of positive impacts that engaging in sports can have on an individual's mental and emotional well-being. By actively participating in sports, individuals have the opportunity to build resilience, which in turn can enhance self-esteem, motivation, and determination. Resilience is not an innate quality possessed by a select few; it is a skill set that can be honed and strengthened through intentional practice. Athletes who actively cultivate resilience can reap the rewards of enhanced mental and emotional well-being, increased self-esteem, and improved performance. By embracing the concept of resilience and viewing daily stressors as opportunities for growth, athletes can foster a mindset that propels them toward success and fuels their passion for their sport. One of the most common questions we hear is, "How do we make our relationship work?" The answers are complicated and varied and, after a while, can start to sound like muddled platitudes. Whether it’s learning your partner’s love language, making space for them, or simply engaging in respectful conversation and being kind. It may seem cliché, but it is what works. It’s the little things you do together that keep your relationship happy and healthy. Just like a living thing, your love needs to be nurtured and protected. Codependency encompasses a range of behaviors that can lead to unhealthy relationships, and one of these behaviors is caretaking. It is worth noting that while people often use the terms caregiving and caretaking interchangeably, they are distinct concepts. Caregiving is a natural expression of love and is an integral part of healthy adult relationships. On the other hand, caretaking often involves an imbalanced dynamic where there is more "taking" than giving. This is because caregiving stems from a place of abundance, while caretaking arises from need and deprivation. Understanding the continuum between caretaking and caregiving is essential. The aim is to engage in as much caregiving as possible while reducing caretaking tendencies. The challenge lies in learning to detach and let go. However, detachment does not imply caring any less about our loved ones. Rather, it means respecting their dignity and allowing them to make mistakes and find their own path. Concurrently, we must tend to our own neglected needs and empower others to do the same by supporting their choices. By embracing this approach, we can foster healthier relationships and personal growth for both ourselves and others. It is often said that building a reputation takes a lifetime, but it can be destroyed in mere seconds. At the core of a person's reputation lies their integrity. A person of integrity leads their life guided by moral and ethical principles. Practically speaking, integrity is reflected in our daily words, actions, decisions, and how we treat others. For most individuals, their integrity holds immense value and is something they cherish and strive to protect. Nevertheless, integrity can gradually be tarnished and eroded if one isn't vigilant. To lead a life of integrity, it is beneficial to ask ourselves each day: "What good can I do today?" or "What good have I already done today?" By continuously evaluating our actions, we can maintain and enhance our integrity, safeguarding the foundation of our reputation. Reading is important. Not only is it one way to fill in the gaps left by formal education, but it is a meaningful way to better ourselves. Reading alone, however, isn’t enough; what you read also matters. Some books help you relax, some teach you lessons, and some alter your perspective for the better. In this episode, let me share with you a few books that will change your life – if only you implement what you learn from them into your life. In this episode, we explore the differences between the concept that life is happening to you or for you. We explore the idea that life is always communicating with us, and how we can learn from the lessons that are presented to us. We'll discuss how slowing down can help us be more mindful and present, and how every experience has something to teach us. Challenge yourself this week: when something happens in your life that evokes some emotion, learn to recognize and accept that life is happening FOR you. Once you accept this, it becomes easier to see the lesson. Regardless of your fame, fortune, or abilities, life is filled with difficulties. You may not be able to control the problems you face, but you’re in control of how you react to them. When challenges arise, taking care of yourself can get pushed aside in favor of what seems to be more pressing and important demands on your time and energy. Personal boundaries are the limits and rules we set for ourselves within relationships. People with healthy boundaries can say “no” to others when they want to, but they are also comfortable opening themselves up to intimacy and close relationships. Today I share the importance of boundaries not only for yourself but for those around you and how you can start setting them. Boundaries are extremely important for human beings to maintain. Without boundaries, you are likely to be taken advantage of, manipulated, abused, or “blinded” by the shallow, self-centered people we encounter in our daily lives. Without an understanding of boundaries, you may also find yourself disrespecting others’ set boundaries, as well. A burden is anything we attempt to carry in life that feels like a heavy load, often as a result of us operating from the space of emotions. Much of the weight we carry is often self-imposed, while others are mounting pressure from extrinsic factors. Today I share with you six of the many ways to release your burdens. From identifying your burdens to letting go of them one by one, what’s important is to start and shed whatever needless pain in your life. As you shed your burdens, feel the lightness that comes in the form of inner peace, self-worth, ease, inner freedom, an unburdened and undivided mind, and love. It isn’t wrong to say that we live in a generation with a tremendous sense of self-importance. If you point this out as a problem, the critics will accuse you of not seeing the need for self-esteem. But even self-esteem has become a euphemism for self-absorption. In this episode, I am joined by a good friend, Elim Ou. We talk about finding freedom from caring about what other people say, from outside validation and judgment. We don’t need to stand out, and people please just to hear a couple of compliments. It’s high time to normalize being imperfect and doing things you want for yourself and not for anyone else. We’ve all been there — those moments where we feel hurt over something someone has said or done. When this happens, it’s easy to assume that the other person is responsible for making you feel that way. Despite popular belief, no one can make you feel anything. In this episode, I talk about how you must take ownership of your feelings and that nobody can ever make you feel or do anything. All it takes is by changing your mindset, which begins with having awareness. Taking a moment to identify your thought patterns can help you understand why and how they affect you. Because while other people can affect your mood, they’re not responsible for your feelings. We’re at an age where people are obsessed with following society’s standards of “looking good.” Women should be “slim” and not exceed a certain weight, while men should be “fit” and muscular to even be considered “desirable.” While people are slowly breaking the barrier of what is deemed acceptable in terms of body shapes and sizes, we can’t deny the number of people who use steroids to get the body they aspire to have. Today I share my story of past steroid use, how it impacted my life, and how it changed my body negatively. My story is only one of the many examples that the long-term destructive effects of the use of this drug far outweigh its short-term benefits. Almost every one of us wants success. Life coaches and motivational speakers can tell you how to start, but no one will tell you that the road to success will be boring. “All you have to do is start!” is great advice for someone who hasn’t started yet. But most people’s problem isn’t starting, it’s following through. Success isn’t money, a beautiful house, or a great body. It’s waking up early and running because you said you would. It’s reading books on investing and putting away money every month. And not spending it. And waiting. For years. It’s continuously doing the work – every day without fail – for the results that you desire. It’s training yourself to love the work you have to do, putting one foot in front of the other, day after day. If you can learn to love this, then success will come, but it won’t matter so much. What you’ll enjoy aren’t the rewards but becoming a better version of yourself. Sometimes, we become so overwhelmed by information and technology overload and by the number of things we have to complete that we tend to just switch to autopilot to get through the day, leaving some things unnoticed. In this episode, I talk about the importance of having deeper awareness, being in the moment with whatever you are doing, and blocking unnecessary distractions so you can push through your daily life. Raising consciousness is not only about taking care of yourself; it’s also about focusing on your environment: the people around you, nature, sounds, smells, and your thoughts. If you want to become more present in your life, you need to truly want to achieve this and make a conscious decision to take a step forward and make a significant change in your life. We all have a threshold for being uncomfortable. How high that threshold is, varies from person to person. Being uncomfortable is good for you because we must be uncomfortable in order to grow and learn. For example, if you want to become stronger physically, you must lift weights that are heavy. If you want to improve your writing skills, you should write more often rather than sit at home all day watching Netflix. Some people are naturally more comfortable being in the discomfort of trying new things in life simply because they have chosen to constantly stretch their limits. At first, it will be hard to feel comfortable experiencing new situations, but as you gain experience and learn from your mistakes, it will become easier. Remember, if you always stay in your comfort zone and avoid situations where you might fail or be uncomfortable, then there is no way for you to grow as an individual. Excuses are on every corner imaginable. When we have a goal, there are always going to be setbacks. If you take all the time in the world looking at everything that could go wrong, you may result in inaction. Sometimes, you have to take a leap of faith even though you don’t know the outcome. It’s far better to take a chance and fail rather than sit by and watch life pass you by. Excuses are an easy scapegoat for the reasons you aren’t going in the direction you want to in life. It’s too easy to use them as a crutch for why we don’t do things. You are responsible for your own happiness, and so is everyone else. Some lessons can be learned without ever having to go through a traumatic experience — after all, common sense goes a long way and can spare you a lot of pain and heartache. However, there are some life lessons you have to learn the hard way. Today I share the lessons I learned after probably the most challenging week I've ever had. Because life can be hard and complicated sometimes. But every time you try to get out of your comfort zone, expect resistance and fight through it with resilience until you learn to accept that it’s part of life and it is how you grow. At one point in our lives, we’ve struggled with trying to be who we wanted and always tried to please others or not do anything to be judged harshly. We’ve all tried to hide how we feel to maintain the “strong” facade. We all did things that were “unlike us” to keep up with what society expects us to be. But we were doing it to serve others’ expectations of us, not ourselves. Being yourself means living life how you want to, regardless of other people’s opinions. And it means you respect yourself. Don’t worry about what others think. You can’t control them or their thoughts. If you like who you are, then that is all that matters. Don’t allow others to change who you are. You are judged regardless of what you do, so being yourself makes happiness easier. Live life on your terms, not someone else’s. The answer is no. For starters, women aren’t weak. They may be physically weaker, but they are still pretty strong. What society misidentifies as strength is power, and men shine at physical power. But the idea that men are stronger in an absolute or general sense is just obviously wrong. Women live longer, and fewer die young. Men’s bodies are bigger and more powerful - but men are less robust. And our bodies are not human’s greatest strength anyway - our brains are. Social, linguistic, empathetic, and emotional skills are the biggest strengths humans have. These are termed soft skills - but hardness is not strength. Hard things are brittle and break. Soft things adapt and endure. Softness, as the Daoists argued, is strength. But in a sexist society - men will always be considered stronger. Because what is male is what is called strength. Everyone loves being right. Scrutinizing other people’s opinions has become a pastime. If not, take a look at Twitter – what used to be social media has become a virtual court. There’s always a jury ready to find you guilty as charged. But being always right is overrated. Being right serves no purpose if the outcome isn’t better, doesn’t help, or doesn’t improve the condition or outcome. Instead, use your good judgment. If what you’re doing makes things better for those involved or the situation, it’s most likely correct. But if it’s not an improvement for the given situation, don’t let your ego commodore your actions because being “right” feels good for you — it’s a pointless activity if it only serves you. We all suffer from a bout or two of “shoulds” and “coulds” in our lives. Every time we tell ourselves we “could” have done something or “should” be doing something, we are essentially beating and shaming ourselves. In this episode, let me remind you and urge you to stop that endless cycle of self-doubt. Sometimes, we get stuck into this idea of an infinite list of things we should do in terms of life, career, how we live our lives, what we believe in, what we should feel, and what we should do versus what we want to do, what makes us happy, what we’re good at, and where our passions lie. So, take a beat, check in with yourself, acknowledge that you’re struggling, and validate your feelings. Whatever you’re feeling — shame or disappointment — voice the negativity and recognize the pain with mindfulness. This episode is about the importance of purpose in one's life. I learned that purpose is what you were put here to do and that it is the combination of what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. I also learned that a lot of people pursue their passion without considering whether or not it is what the world needs or if they can be paid for it. I saw that people do this because they have a lot of limiting beliefs based on their past that prevent them from even starting to pursue their purpose. I saw that the best way to go after one's purpose is to start small and be very gentle with oneself. I also learned that the resistance of going after one's In this episode, you will learn the following: 1. What is ikigai, and how can it help you find your purpose? 2. Some of us have been living our lives one day at a time, moving towards our goals, slowly but surely. Then some are stuck in the past. “I am enough,” a three-word sentence that carries exceptional weight. For some people, it’s the default to know their worth. But for others, it may take months or years to realize their worth. Sometimes our limiting beliefs play a role in the background. One minute you think you’re the most confident person alive; the next, you feel your confidence crumble because of something someone said. As an affirmation, knowing the meaning of “I am enough” creates a concrete picture in your mind. It tells your brain how to act and react in different situations and when to shut down your inner doubting voice. We are allowed to form our own opinions, and that means people won’t have the same thoughts about a certain topic as us. The problem these days doesn’t lie in the differences in opinions; it’s how we demonize those who don’t believe in what we believe in. If you’ve been measuring your happiness standard against those you see on social media, you are in for a ride. In this episode, I talk about the pros and cons of working hard, sharing my journey of working 12-hour days and the toll it took on my health. Working hard can have benefits, but finding a balance is essential. Working hard to the point of damaging your health is not sustainable and is not success. Take the time to assess your motivation to work hard and ensure you are working towards your true goals. Here are the steps you need to follow to also get balance and success: Take the time to assess why you are working so hard. Is it coming from a place of fear or scarcity? If so, it may be time to reevaluate your priorities. Consider the long-term effects of working too hard. It can take a toll on your health, both physically and mentally. Find a balance between work and the rest of your life. Make sure you are taking time for yourself and your relationships. I’d love to hear about you and your experience with getting balance and success. Please send me a DM on my IG. Sonder - the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—. (Source: dictionaryofobscuresorrows.com ) I was blown away when I found this word and read its meaning. It’s a dichotomy that you walk through this life the same way as others, nothing special in that sense, but at the same time, it also means you are connected with everyone else in a way that you might have never imagined. I invite you to sit down and reflect on this. Listen to this episode as I share beautiful examples of sonder in real life—in my life. Fear is a fundamental emotion that is wired deeply inside each of us. It’s an emotion that has successfully evolved to protect us against any perceived threat to our integrity or existence. Our brain finds it difficult to differentiate between real fear and the fear that appears to be authentic. Let me give you a wake-up call: Not every anxiety-inducing fear you have is real. Some of them were just planted in your brain by people who don’t know you or your real potential. Recognize those unreal fears, take control, and let nothing hold you back. As the old adage goes, trust is the foundation of a relationship, but that trust can, unfortunately, be broken. And that applies to any relationship, whether it’s with family, friends, or your partner. Today I urge you to reflect on whether or not you are breaking the trust in any of your relationships. There are many ways trust in a relationship can be broken. It can be through infidelity in romantic relationships, unmet expectations, or by simply betraying a person’s sense of safety and confidence. Whichever way it is, ask yourself, are you doing it? Everyone deals with struggles and challenges differently; others thrive through them, while some drown in depression. In this episode, we have motivational speaker Don Mann share his story, his pain, his struggle, and how pulling the trigger changed his perspective in life. There is so much vulnerability in today’s episode, and we hope you find the strength to go on in life no matter what you’re going through because you are known, needed, and loved! Don W. Mann is a former police officer, security specialist with the federal government, and emergency preparedness director. While in law enforcement, Don became a D.A.R.E. Officer teaching youth to avoid drugs and alcohol. He also received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving's Officer of The Year Award. Despite living out his dream of becoming a police officer and serving others, his life on the outside was at odds with the struggle internally. He just didn't feel like he fit in anywhere. A high school dropout who struggled in many areas of life, he just couldn't catch a break. Don's past of bullying, rejection, depression, severe cystic acne, and the absence of any social or emotional skills came roaring back with a vengeance. In just five short years, Don went from a decorated officer living the American dream to the lowest place in his life. He was alone, in jail, depressed, hopeless, and homeless. But he didn't stay there. For the next eight years, it became his life's mission to discover the meaning in what he endured knowing it could be someone else's life preserver. Don understands the struggles students endure and the very real and mounting challenges facing parents, educators, and administrators. Don brings messages that cover bullying and how students can become bully-proof with their truth, the need for intentional focus on social and emotional intelligence, and the value in sending your children into this world living from approval and never for approval. He brings inspiration and motivation along with challenges to take practical next steps to be who you were created to be. What’s your relationship with ego? Do you even understand what it truly means and why it’s important to take notice of your ego? More often than not, when we hear the word ego, it usually translates to something negative or undesirable. But in reality, it isn’t. Having an ego is a good thing because it is your sense of self-esteem. You just have to ensure that you are mindful of all the unhealthy projection of your ego that reflects your fears and insecurities. Like most things in this world, the work that you need to do within yourself is important to balance out a healthy vs. unhealthy ego.
