In this episode, we delve into the concept of being "qualified" in the workplace, examining who gets labeled as such, who doesn't, and the underlying reasons. We explore "competency checking"—the practice of scrutinizing individuals' abilities—and how it disproportionately affects underrepresented groups, often going unnoticed or unchallenged. Our discussion aims to redefine qualifications in a fair, equitable, and actionable manner. Our guest, Shari Dunn , is an accomplished journalist, former attorney, news anchor, CEO, university professor, and sought-after speaker. She has been recognized as Executive of the Year and a Woman of Influence, with her work appearing in Fortune Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Ad Age, and more. Her new book, Qualified: How Competency Checking and Race Collide at Work , unpacks what it truly means to be deserving and capable—and why systemic barriers, not personal deficits, are often the real problem. Her insights challenge the narratives that hold so many of us back and offer practical solutions for building a more equitable future. Together, we can build workplaces and communities that don’t just reflect the world we live in, but the one we want to create. A world where being qualified is about recognizing the talent and potential that’s been overlooked for far too long. It’s not just about getting a seat at the table—it’s about building an entirely new table, one designed with space for all of us. We all have moments where depressing thoughts float into our minds. This guided mediation helps you recognize those thoughts, acknowledge them, then move past them. We'll use some breathing exercises and visualization to move the mind to a lighter, happier place.
This meditation utilizes a new tool I've been using called "angry breathing". It's basically heavy sighs when I'm feeling frustrated, angry, or defeated, and somehow it makes me feel better. Music graciously provided by Midnight's with his latest track "Sweety". Follow him on Instagram @bryanpalafoxofficial to hear more of his work, or on Spotify as " Midnight's ."…

Some things may have already changed such as the limit on visitors for ICU patients, and how severe their PPE shortage is. A few resources mentioned in this episode: CDC W.H.O W.H.O Instagram Page Samaritan Health guidelines for donating PPE including fabric masks Take a multi-vitamin or Zinc supplement to support your immunity Journal, try yoga, or find another indoor activity to help reduce your stress levels…

Not my typical style, but I felt compelled to share my experience shopping in Costco this week in Oregon amid the coronavirus outbreak. All I wanted on my “essential list” was TP and tampons that wouldn’t deliver in time online...
I truly believe meditation is the best tool to have in our toolbox right now to fight the fear and anxiety that is being created from this pandemic. As we mentioned in this episode, if you haven’t tried meditation yet and are curious, now is the absolute best time to give it a try. So many studios and leaders in this space are offering guided meditations for free, streamed online, including Lauren’s Instagram page where you can join her for meditation through her live videos. Her biggest tip during this pandemic is to remember the magical moments that are being created; hearing the birds chirp in the morning, an opportunity for BOTH parents to be home at the same time with their children, feeling each and every present moment with gratitude. Lauren is currently working on continuing to offer her Hike & Meditation workshops which normally happen the last Sunday of the month. If Boise doesn’t restrict people to their homes this coming week, the hike on 3/31 will still be happening, but she’ll be taking smaller groups of 6 throughout the day to make it easier to maintain social distancing. More info can be found here: https://www.innerrebel.co/hike-meditate You can follow Lauren on her Instagram page, @innerrebel.co, or on her website, which is also innnerrebel.co for upcoming hikes, meditations, and other valuable resources. She is also a teacher on Insight Timer, so be sure to try some of her meditations that are already available for you to try at home found here: https://insighttimer.com/innerrebelco I know this ended up being a heavier topic than we originally planned, but I hope we shared some resources that you found helpful. Stay well my friends, and remember, we’re all on this together.…
Today's epiosode is about overcoming injuries with a positive mental attitude. I interviewed my boyfriend, JR Zwingraf, who is the expert at overcoming injuries, while maintaining a positive mental attitude. His biggest tip in this episode was to find ways to push through, because nobody is going to get you through this besides YOU. Try new hobbies that are within your limitations, read books, or play phone games. Anything to stay busy. Look for supplemental insurance programs such as Aflac or check out programs through your employer that you may not be aware of (HR is the best resource for this). If you have a family, build up a plan before your surgery and work out how you're going to get help from family and friends to cover daily tasks you know you won’t be able to do. You can follow JR on social media. You’ll find him on Twitter, @jerskiez, or follow him on Facebook for his inspirational and dirty memes, JR Zwingraf. Until next time, think of something positive that happened to you today.…

Learn all about the law of attraction with Vonda Van Rooyen, who has been accidentally working with and practicing the law of attraction for 20 years! I stumbled into one of Vonda's "Dream Bigger" workshops in late 2017 when I was looking for something positive to happen in my life, but didn't know where to start. My favorite quote from this episode was, "What you think about, you bring about." This is the BEST definition of the Law of Attraction! Vonda shares in this episode how she utilized the law of attraction to make all her adult and childhood dreams come true. A few resources Vonda mentioned in this episode: Barbara Sher's free book Wishcraft Vonda's Fun Dream List The List Coach Website where you can connect with Vonda and learn more about 1-on-1 coaching sessions! The List Coach Instagram Page The List Coach Facebook Page I absolutely loved Vonda's workshop which kicked off my own journey of utilizing the law of attraction to make my biggest dreams come true. In this episode I had the pleasure of interviewing Brent Buckelew, a local yoga teacher who teaches a restorative and all-level flow class at Love Yoga in North Albany. Brent has been practicing yoga for 5 years and moved to Oregon from Alabama in 2018. From starting a non-profit yoga studio out of his house to completing an intense yoga teacher training in Bali, he's had quite the yoga journey so far! I discovered his yoga nidra class on Superbowl Sunday of 2018, and have been sold on guided meditations ever since. He now incorporates Yoga Nidra into the second half of his restorative class. In this episode he shares his knowledge of Yoga Nidra, gets briefly into the science behind it, and explains the benefits for both children and adults, as well as how this practice is being used in the army. You can try his Yoga Nidra class before he moves in June on Sunday nights at Love Yoga from 7-8:15pm, or his all-level flow class on Monday afternoons from 4:15-5:15pm. Find out where Brent will be teaching in the future by following him on Facebook at "Brent's Yoga Page" or shoot him a email at brentbuckelew@gmail.com.…
