Having a boundary spanning role and building legitimacy go hand in hand. It can feel like you are constantly trying to build legitimacy and when you join a new organisation – you have to start from scratch and you have to show who you are and share your values.

Other people can build your legitimacy by word of mouth testimonial / referral and this is really important, but you still have to live up to this expectation. Do this by trying to get to know people, make it personal and make it not all about you but showcase your experience.

• Quietly putting out fires in the background that other people don't know that is there.
• See the light at the end of the tunnel
• It’s hard but so rewarding
• Reflect on those little successes

The most practical piece of advice I can offer is, be visible do what you say you are going to do and make the time to genuinely get to know people and be yourself.
