#253 Lessons in leadership with Dr Ursula Montgomery
Manage episode 367896193 series 2821558
Dr Ursula Montgomery is a GP and former NHS England Senior Clinical Advisor and latterly, Interim Director of Primary Care, having dedicated 26 years to working and transforming healthcare. She is also a successful business leader and Mum of two, and I was absolutely delighted when Ursula agreed to be interviewed for #TheBusinessofHealthcare podcast.
This week’s episode focuses on the journey to senior leadership and why it isn’t always, and doesn’t have to be, straightforward, traditional, or linear. Ursula is proof that you can balance being successful in all areas of your life and take time out when you need to, without compromising your career path.
We discuss:
- Weighing up our own strengths (and where there is room for additional training, development, and continuous improvement)
- Starting from the place where you draw the most energy from, when it comes to embarking on new work projects and stepping up
- Life as an NHS England interim director and Senior Clinical Advisor
- The mechanics of landing policy and the importance of lessons learned
- The wider Primary Care landscape right now
- Ursula’s advice for aspiring leaders
- Why protection of physical and mental health is key to realising success – and the benefits of professional coaching
- Having the courage to take time out if and when you need to – and how not to get drawn back in (!)
