Many qualities encompass this episode’s guest. Start with her outlook to have fun, smile, laugh and love. Personally and professionally she’s inquisitive, enjoys helping people, has a passion for hard work ethic, is family oriented and loves all things marketing. Meet Nona King, a career coach for professionals looking to jumpstart or pivot in their careers. She specializes in career development, personal branding, and making high-impact connections by uncovering untapped potential and providing the connections to help professionals reimagine their careers and possibilities in life. In the last year, she’s helped her clients increase their average pay by over $40K, while landing roles they love, at companies that align with their values and goals where they can be their full authentic selves. Nona is helping people identify their skill set so that they are marketable for whatever they do next.We discuss how Nona is sure to fill her own cup with joy so that she is able to reach others with enthusiasm and authenticity. She grew up driven and accomplishing her goals which included her education. She majored in music at Vanderbilt and then got an MBA— then she found herself without a job. That set her course to begin discovering areas she wanted to focus on and how in to close gaps in either her experience or her network. You hear her pathway and some of the hurdles. Giving real life examples, she walks us through her encounter with management after she had her first child and the direction her career took. We talk about networking and the reality of what networking is — building relationships. Nona encourages the mindset to meet people and ask questions and learn about them and let them know you because people who know you will advocate for you when you are not in the room.“Get outside of your comfort zone and be confident in yourself as you get to know people who are different from you” is advice she offers young adults and the more seasoned. We talk relationships and what she sees that she and her husband are doing right — supporting each other and letting each guide their own methods of how to accomplish work tasks. They communicate joys and challenges, have the difficult conversations and talk situations through. She encourages couples to listen and not to always be thinking of your next answer, but to listen with your heart. Collecting friends and mentors help her to guide life and her business. Her siblings are also a source she can lean on. Life for Nona is truly is about family and her kids and helping others.Entrepreneurship is a favorite topic and in coaching her clients she may ask “what attracted them to the opportunity they are approaching and what gap can only they fill?” Her advice to the entrepreneur is to identify the gaps you might have, close those gaps and have a plan.Nona is very intentional and she’s paying attention to the small and large details that bring her joy and grow her business. She puts pen to paper and she sets personal goals like eating right and working out simply because it is important. Incorporated in her life are aspects to create what it takes to achieve the next level— prayer everyday…it’s in her calendar, walking and getting outside and working her business plan. All of these actions keep her intentional and accountable. She gives you tools in her coaching business.
