Learning the forms of the conditional in English is not especially easy. In this podcast I'll share some sentences that give you a chance to practice the conditional. And because I personally am a big fan of repetition in language learning, I've repeated each sentence fifteen times. My suggestion is to listen to everything one or more times, and then when you're ready, just repeat right over my voice. I didn't leave any silences but really, I don't mind if you speak when I'm speaking. This is what I do when I'm practicing Spanish and nobody ever complains. (Of course I only do it with recordings!)
And if you think fifteen repetitions is a lot, for my own practice I like thirty to forty repetitions. Or even fifty. So give it a try, or we also say: Give it a whirl, and let me know if you like more repetitions, hate them, or feel neutral.
Part I
1) If you don't hurry, you'll miss your flight.
2) If she doesn't hurry, she'll miss her bus.
3) If we don't hurry, we'll miss the ferry.
Part II
1) If I spoke English fluently, I'd have a better job. (I'd = I would)
2) Is she spoke English fluently, she'd look for a job in Bogota. (she'd = she would)
3) If it snowed tomorrow, I'd be astonished.
4) If you studied more, your grades would improve.
Part III
1) If he had won the national lottery, he wouldn't still be living in this little village.
2) If he hadn't been drinking, he wouldn't have crashed his car into a tree.
Part IV
1) We wouldn't be lost if we had brought a map with us.
2) I'd be happier if my little brother didn't collect snakes and spiders—and keep them in his bedroom.
