A podcast created by Decolonising Contraception collective, an interdisciplinary collective of Black and people of colour, working across sexual and reproductive health (SRH) . Hosted by Edem Ntumy (She/her) - community engagement officer and Dr Annabel Sowemimo (She/her) community sexual & reproductive health doctor. Each episode gives a round up of sexual health news, social justice issues and focuses on the work of those working to dismantle the everyday prejudice in our sector. Series edited by Veronique Belinga. Episode 6 focuses on queerness in Caribbean communities we speak to Dr Kyle Ring (They/Them) a Sexual Health and HIV doctor working in London. We also give a round up of sexual health news chatting about our Contraception is About Everyone Campaign, honouring the legacy of Supreme Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and more. This episode discusses Kyle's experience of being a queer man of Caribbean descent and their journey to learn more about themselves through decolonising work. Kyle is interested in a Caribbean history and healing from ancestral trauma and the affects of colonialism. They write a blog on Caribbean history and genealogy (caribbeanportraitcollection.wordpress.com) and curate an instragram account (@in.hair.itance) about hair representation for people of colour. They sit on a number of committees including the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) HIV SIG, British HIV Association (BHIVA) External Relations Subcommittee and the HIV Trainees Association Committee. It is also Black History Month in the UK but also worth remembering Black History exists 365 days a year :)
