Step Four of Recovery: We Made a Fearless Moral Inventory

Step Four of Recovery begins a different direction than the first three steps. The first three steps are the beginning of restoring your relationship with God, but the next several steps you begin to look more closely at yourself. It is in Step Four that you take a "searching and fearless" moral inventory of yourself and in some ways this is similar to a commercial inventory so that you know what character traits to keep and which ones to discard. AA and NA both encourage you to ask for God's help and that God will help guide you in this process. Step Four can indeed be an important step in your recovery and also in growing in your spiritual relationship with God.
