In Psychology Deep Dive podcast episode 15, Harry Venice explores the shadow through the "Baby Girl" movie netflix starring Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas. This movie explores the shadow symbol of the black dog which also appears in Goethe's book "Faust". Faust is a book which Carl Jung said was a key to shadow work and Jungian psychology.
The movie Baby girl begins with a black dog appearing and a young man who can control the dog. Nicole Kidman is a powerful CEO but she is afraid of the dog, afraid of her shadow. Yet this young man who is an intern at her company can control the dog and has no fear. This symbol and psychological moment sets the scene for the entire movie. In fact, the movie begins with the black dog symbol and ends with the black dog symbol.
The movie is highly erotic and sexual. I was not ready for the intensity of the sex scenes when I started eating my popcorn! However, it was a great movie. When I saw the black dog in the opneing scene, I immediately thought of Carl Jung, shadow work, and the black dog symbol in Goethe's Faust! I also note that the black dog discussions here are relevant for dream analysis and dream interpretation.
Abit more about Faust and the black dog as a context for its relevance to the netflix movie Baby Girl: Shadow work has its roots in the story of "Faust" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Carl Jung often wrote about the book of Faust and the Black Dog which appears in that story. The dog represents the shadow. This is the Jungian Psychology concept of the shadow, commonly known now as shadow work.
The shadow also relates to attachment styles, attachment styles, attachment theory, cptsd, and trauma.
Topics: shadow work, jungian analysis, jungian analyst near me, jungian therapist, jungian psychology, archetypes, shadow work prompts, shadow work meaning, shadow work carl jung, shadow work exercises, shadow work journal, shadow work guided meditation, shadow work reddit, attachment therapist near me, cptsd meaning, trauma, complex trauma, attachment theory, attachment styles, carl jung jungian dream analysis, carl jung jungian dream interpretation
