In Sumer An and Ki (or anshar and kishar) are the original father and mother, they represent sky and earth respectively. As we said, the ruling party wants to remove the woman from the story. They partially imitated the Egyptian model (or maybe Egyptian Pharaohs had imitated them in the first place). An and Ki bring a son, whose name is Enlil or Elil.
