Does your child talk comfortably at home but behave differently around other people? Like when they need to go back to school, they tend to be more reserved, shy, and quiet.
Our children go through a lot of changes in their life, and those transitions may result in fear and anxiety that can affect their communication skills. As parents, we want to help our children adapt to change and become more comfortable speaking their minds.
Today, the author's spotlight is on Payal Burnham, a registered Speech-Language Pathologist with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
Payal uses her personal and professional experience to write children's books like Silent Sally Speaks and Kingsley's Great Escape in hopes of helping readers learn and practice their speech and language skills in a relatable, engaging, and fun way.
In this episode, we discuss some possible causes of selective mutism in children, the importance of accepting and understanding these speech issues, and how books can help our children overcome their speech and language anxiety.
