In Penny’s book “Tender: The Imperfect Art of Caring”, she not only shares her own experiences of being a young carer for her mother and now for her autistic son, she also includes others’ stories and their journeys of being unpaid carers from the perspectives of many different roles (spouse, child, sibling, parent…). We talk about what it means to be an unpaid carer, to acknowledge fears, to the need for resources, and what lockdown has looked like for her in London as a single mom needing to work AND care for her family.
