نلتقي في هذه الحلقة بثلاثة ضيوف من «بلاتنم»، شركة إنتاج موسيقي (record label) من فلسطين: الناظر (محمد مسروجي)، وهو المنتج الموسيقي، شب جديد (عدي عباس)، الكاتب والمؤدي الرئيسي، وشب موري (أحمد زغموري)، الذي يلعب عددًا من الأدوار في الشركة، أحدها دوره كمخرج إبداعي (art director).

تأسست «بلاتنم» عام 2015، وأصدرت أغنيتها الأولى عام 2017. وفي 2019، أطلقت الشركة «سندباد الورد»، أول ألبوم كامل لشب جديد، من إنتاج الناظر.

في فترة زمنية قصيرة، تمكنت «بلاتنم» من بناء اسم وقاعدة جماهيرية واسعة، حتى صارت من الأسماء الأساسية على ساحة التراب والهيب هوب في العالم العربي.

هنا، يحدثنا مؤسسو الشركة عن عملية صناعة ألبومهم الأول، وعن حياتهم قبل «بلاتنم» وكيفية تأسيسها، وكذلك عن تقييمهم لتجربتهم في العمل كمجموعة. كما نحلل معًا أغنية «بنساك» لشب جديد ومقاطعة.

Katalog is a podcast by Mada Masr, about the process, production, and deeper meaning behind select works from the contemporary Arab and North African music landscape. Co-produced and hosted by music journalist/writer Maha ElNabawi and musician/sound engineer Adham Zidan, the podcast offers behind-the-scenes stories of musicians, their inspiration, and their process through a dynamic sonic experience.

In each episode, we feature a guest musician, and together we break down their tracks to give our listener a more intimate understanding of the complex layers that make up their unique sound.

This episode of Katalog is special because of instead of having only one guest, today we have three. From BLTNM, we have Al Nather or Mohamed Masrouji, Shabjdeed / Ady Abbas, Ahmad Zaghmouri (Shabmouri).

BLTNM is a music production company and record label from Palestine. Al Nather is the producer, Shabjdeed is the head writer, and MC, while Shabmouri plays a number of roles, including art director.

Even for those who haven’t heard of BLTNM, but follow trap or hip hop, have likely come across songs within their catalogue. BLTNM was founded in 2015, and released its first song in 2017. Within a short time, BLTNM was able to build a massive, youth-driven fan base across the region, until it became one of the main names associated with the hip hop and trap scene in the Arab world. After they released a bundle of tracks online through a strategic plan distribution plan, they dropped 2019 “Sindibad” produced by Al Nather, with lyrics written and rapped by Shabjdeed.

We sat down with the founders and artists behind BLTNM after their party in Cairo in 2019. In the episode they tell us about the process of making their first album, about their life before BLTNM and about how the company was established. We also break apart their hit track, “Bansak” together, and end the episode hearing about their work dynamic as a group, and how they develop standards for assessing and progressing their work.
