Summary: The Word of God reveals the will of God. The Word of God will produce faith in our heart to believe, do, submit to in thought and action, and obey the Will of God. Scriptures: James 2 AMPC 17 So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead). 22 You see that [his] faith was cooperating with his works, and [his] faith was completed and reached its supreme expression [when he implemented it] by [good] works. 26 For as the human body apart from the spirit is lifeless, so faith apart from [its] works of obedience is also dead. Romans 1:5 through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, Romans 16:26 but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith Hebrews 11 ESV 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. Philippians 2 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 2 Corinthians 10 ESV 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ Romans 10:17 ESV So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
Summary: We do not work for our salvation but we do work our faith. We do act on our faith so that our actions work with what we believe is the will of God. Scriptures: Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Romans 9 30 What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness[d] did not succeed in reaching that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. The works it’s talking about was keeping the law so that you deserve and qualify to experience the life God has for us. The works James is talking about is putting action to your faith which is acting on the Word. The Word reveals the will of God and when you receive it as true, it causes faith in you to act on the will of God for it to come to pass. James 2 AMPC 17 So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead). 22 You see that [his] faith was cooperating with his works, and [his] faith was completed and reached its supreme expression [when he implemented it] by [good] works. 26 For as the human body apart from the spirit is lifeless, so faith apart from [its] works of obedience is also dead. Receive God's gift of salvation through faith, acting on and believing the Word. Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
Summary: Don't quit. God will continue doing a work in your and fulfill his purpose for you! Psalm 138:8 ESV The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. 1 Chronicles 29:26-28 ESV Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years. He reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. Then he died at a good age, full of days, riches, and honor. And Solomon his son reigned in his place. Acts 13:36 ESV For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers Philippians 1:6 Amplified Bible I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]. Summary Righteousness is a gift God has given us to put on and live in. We do this by faith. Scriptures: James 5 13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Romans 3:21-22 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. Righteousness is a gift Romans 5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! You have a gift… You learn to put it on. Ephesians 6 ESV 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God , so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place Righteousness is to be submitted to by faith. Romans 10 ESV 1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge . 3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. You can’t work your way into righteousness. It’s a gift to be submitted to. The Repentance and Cleansing 1 John 1:9 ESV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. What if we still feel a heaviness, shame and regret? We walk by faith, not by sight and not by feeling. Philippians 4 4 Rejoice in the Lord always ; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Isaiah 61 ESV The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit ; that they may be called oaks (trees) of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified. Summary: Righteousness is a gift given to us by God because of the redemptive work of Christ. It's a gift we need to take for our own and identify with so that our relationship with God is firm and our prayers are powerful. Ephesians 6:14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Romans 5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! Summary: Today I want to share mainly on one verse, 1 Thessalonians 1:3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other Having a growing faith and an abounding love should be a goal, a top priority and we should have a bible based plan to do it. Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
Summary: Holiness is being set apart. We are called to strive to separate from the things of this world that do not please God to a life that is pleasing to him so that we can know him as our God and Father. Scriptures: Hebrews 12:14 ESV Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. 1 Peter 1:14-16 ESV 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 2 Corinthians 6 14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial?[ b ] Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, 18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 7:1 Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God. Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
Summary: Righteousness is a gift we receive and walk in by faith. It's not our good works. It's receiving what Jesus has done for us and provided for us through His redemptive work. Scriptures: James 5:13-16 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Romans 3:21-22 NIV But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. 2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Romans 1:17 NIV For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” 2 Corinthians 4:13 NIV It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak, You have to walk in this by faith meaning daily you have to take action. What action? Simply speaking what you believe is an act of faith. I encourage you to take a step of faith and begin to say that in Christ, you are righteous, you are right with God. Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
Summary: When we find ourselves feeling down because of our circumstances, we must get back to what the Word of God say and let God, by his Word, strengthen us in our spirits. Scriptures: Proverbs 18:14 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition The strong spirit of a man sustains him in bodily pain or trouble, but a weak and broken spirit who can raise up or bear? Psalm 43:5 ESV Why are you in despair, O my soul? Why have you become restless and disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God. Romans 15:13 Amplified Bible May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promise Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
Summary: In Matthew Chapter 14, we see the true account of Peter walking on the water but then began to sink. Jesus saved Peter and then asked, "Why did you doubt?" We can learn from this true account and answer our own question, "Why did I doubt?" Let's keep learning and growing and thanking God for his goodness. Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
Summary: 1 Thessalonians 3:12 May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. Romans 5:5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. God’s love, according to Scripture, is already in us but the manifestation and power of that love can increase as we walk with God and grow. Galations 5:22 NIV But the fruit of the Spirit is love Philippians 2:12-13 NIV Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. We can learn to cooperate with what God wants to do in our lives by humbling ourselves, believing and acting on God's Word. The Commandment To Love God, Others And You Mark 12:28-31 NIV One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” What Love Acts Like 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Are You/We Acting In Love Towards You? Are we… Patient with ourselves? Kind to ourselves? Keeping record of wrongs or past failures? How To Be Sure We Love Ourselves How Do We Know We Love 1 John 5:1-3 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome. Love God most of all, then love others as you love you! Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
Summary: We all face times where we were not chosen. It starts early in life when someone doesn’t choose you to be part of their group or team. Remember being on the play ground and teams were chosen and you were not picked until last? As we get older, we are not chosen for a job position, a leadership role, as a girl friend or boyfriend, or even as a representing realtor. The closer the one not choosing you the harder it is to handle and the more it often hurts. I was talking with a lady who had gone through a divorce and to make it worse, her ex husband had quickly remarried. Some things happened and much of her pent up emotions seemed to be needing to come out. She shared her anger, her pain, her disappointment and her frustration, then finally said, “I just wanted him to CHOOSE me!” I said, “HE did.” She new I meant that Jesus had chosen her. We weren’t talking in person so she told me what I said made her cry. In John 15:16 Jesus said, “You did not choose me, but I chose you…” John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them…” Salvation is a free gift offered to everyone. 2 Peter 3:9 makes it clear that God is “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” The Scriptures says that whosoever, or as it reads from the NIV, ““Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13) Heaven, life eternal, a relationship with God the Father through his Son, Jesus is offered to everyone and yet everyone is individually invited by the Spirit of God drawing them. They either ignore it, reject it or accept it. This is a not a good example but it’s the best I have. Let’s say the worlds most popular singer is hosting a free concert and everyone is invited but he still knocks on your door to ask you to come. This is what God is doing for us. He is choosing to invite us, each of us. He is choosing us to be part of his family and it’s up to us to accept his invitation. Don’t think you are just part of the crowd. God sees you! By his Spirit he is personally inviting you. Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
The First Comandment With A Promise In Ephesians 5, Paul is giving direction for how followers of Christ are to live and conduct their life. Towards the end of Chapter 5, Paul is giving instruction for marriage. The in Ephesians 6, Paul speaks to children and includes one of the 10 commandments. Now let me point out the obvious, your parents will always be your father and mother but you will not always be a child. Paul is giving instructions for how a child is to live and connects it with the promise found in Exodus 20:12 Ephesians 6:1-3 NIV Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise - “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Exodus 20:12 NIV “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. As children, we are to obey our parents but when we become an adult, things change. However, we are to still honor them. What’s honor mean? Honor means to respect, to esteem, to treat in a way that shows someone value or worth, to speak of someone one in a way that shows honor and value of that person. As a grown person, we are still called to honor our parents and we do so by how we treat them and speak of them. Even if your parents have gone on to be with the Lord, you can still honor them in how you live and remember them. Now keep in mind that by honoring your parents you are engaging in the commandment which has a promise. And what is that promise? “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” This would mean you have all you need for life including health. The promise isn’t just for a long life but to enjoy long life. We participate in this promise through faith, believing what God has said and that he is well able to perform it. This is how Abraham received the promise God gave him. Romans 4:19-21 New International Version Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. Who God is and what Christ has already provided for us through the redemptive work of Christ is a fact. We participate in and experience it through faith, believing and acting on the promises. Let’s look at 2 Peter 1:3-4 NIV His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. It’s the Word of God that reveals the truth of God. The Word also contains the promises that we believe and act upon to receive and eperience what God has provided to us through Christ. Let’s go back and read to promise. 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise - 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” I also want you to notice how similar the meaning of the promise is to 1 John 3:2 NIV, “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” God is consistent. The Scripture says he never changes. (See Malachi 3:6) Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” God is good. He wants us to know his will and experience his will. It’s through his Word that we can know, receive, experience and walk in his will. Let’s keep in the Word and let’s keep growing. Blessings in Christ, Tim Dumas https://timdumas.net/living-by-faith/…
Summary: Jesus is who heals us. We see it in the Old Testament and we see it in the New Testament. To begin our healing journey, we must committ to being attentive to the Word, believe it and act on it as we look unto Jesus.
