Show Summary
In today’s world, trying to get married has become... a hot mess. So, to all the COVID brides to have been, grooms and wedding professionals: you’re not alone. Welcome to Bride To Have Been, a StudioPod original podcast hosted by Emily Lewis, with the purpose of building a community by sharing the reality of this new normal in the wedding industry. Let’s keep inspiring each other and celebrate the thing we treasure the most: love.
For actress and professional dancer Morgan Larson, the onset of COVID-19 felt like Broadway going dark indefinitely. Nevertheless life carries on and the slower pace brought on by the global pandemic and shelter-in-place orders finally allowed Larson the time to slow down and make the ultimate commitment to her now hubby Josh. After a long engagement and a never ending search for the perfect venue for a dream wedding, Larson and her husband finally settled on their own backyard and managed to produce an entire nuptual event with speeches and dances from friends and family in person and over Zoom that even Netflix would be envious of.
Jump straight into:
(03:14) - How bride Morgan met her husband - “Josh and I met when I was, so I went to university in Arizona and I would always come visit to LA and just, that was the dream for me.”
(16:56) - On wedding planning pre-COVID - “I met with wedding planners that were like, ‘Okay, your budget, it has to start at one hundred thousand dollars.’ But it was like the J-Lo wedding planner, you know? And I was like, ‘Oh, she is it, but my budget is not that at all.’”
(17:31) - On Morgan trying to lock down a wedding date - “I really did try to be a normal bride, but it was like, my tendency is to just, really, to be Julia Roberts in Runaway Bride.”
(20:46) - How COVID affected her career - “The first two months were really, really difficult. Our whole industry shut down. My friends moved out of the city. It was really crazy change.”
(30:51) - How the wedding finally came together last minute - “I was getting my makeup done, like writing vows, like still, you know, printing out scripts for everyone to follow. It was wild.”
(36:38) - On how her career affected setting a date - “Planning a wedding, some people are really good at it. And I like worship them. And then some people are just like, ‘I hope I show up. I hope I don't have a job that day. Kinda like me.”
(37:25) - Morgan’s thoughts on a mostly-virtual wedding - “You just look people in the eye and you thank them for their role in your life, and I hope that we were still able to do that via Zoom.”
