In this episode of the Eager to Please podcast we start our deep dive in to our new theme, AVOIDANCE, and you know what that means! A new song! "Stay Busy" written with the infamous Steve Seskin, thoughtfully points out why people stay busy (to avoid pain or dealing with situations they don't want to deal with) but it also calls the listener to action. You don't have to stay feeling stuck. You can choose to work through the tough spots and find yourself on the other end of something more peaceful. The choice is yours. In this episode, we reflect on all we’ve talked about as it relates to the “I’m Fine” phrase and why people tend to say it. It starts with emotional wellness and according to Holly & Scott Stoner, licensed marriage and family therapists, we need to start making our emotional wellbeing personal. Ask yourself these questions: Is there a particular emotion that is challenging for you to express? Is there a specific emotion that makes you uncomfortable when expressed by others? Do you see a connection between your two answers to these questions? Why do we feel the need to tell people we're fine, everything's fine, when it's really not? In this episode we sit down with my sister, Michelle Costa, who has lived out this phrase her entire life. Sharing from personal experiences, she digs into why people do this and why it's so important to listen to your "gut feeling" when things aren't fine. Learning to lean on those people who love you most, and not push them away was a pivotal moment for her, as was learning to accept that it's OK to not be OK. Maybe you relate? Perfect. Balanced. Happy. That's what I used to think Camelot was until I figured out that place does not exist. Sure, it's fun to imagine yourself there, but the reality is that those qualities can't be found externally. In order to find peace, balance and happiness, you have to find that within yourself. You have to learn to love and take care of the person who looks back at you in the mirror every day. I hope Camelot brings you that reminder that it's OK to not be OK. Change can be scary, but sometimes it's necessary, even essential, if you're just going through the motions, not enjoying what you're doing or how you're living life. And when you've been living your life for everyone else but yourself, it can be confusing knowing where to start. The first step in becoming whole again is getting to know what matters to you - what values drive you. I invite you to take the values profile quiz offered by MaryBeth Hyland, mindfulness speaker and life coach. Then you can begin setting healthy boundaries that are most true to you and in alignment with your life. Because remember: expectations - agreement = disappointment Doing more of what's in alignment with your values creates an environment of balance, peace and clarity - not stress. And at the end of the day, isn't that what we're all searching for? https://sparkvisionnow.com/ Take the Values Profile Quiz Here! Follow us on Facebook & Instagram @eagertopleasepodcast…

As humans, we innately crave connection, belonging and purpose. But when we base our self-worth on outside factors, like productivity, financial success or what others think of us, we quickly lose sight of what truly fulfills us. Join us on this episode as we chat with MaryBeth Hyland, a values-based mindfulness coach, who reminds us that values come from within; and if we are not in alignment with those core values, our life quickly becomes chaotic. Want to uncover your core values? Setting boundaries can be difficult if you don't know how to set healthy ones or how to communicate them effectively. In this episode, we are blessed to sit down with Grammy-nominated, songwriter-singer and educator, Steve Seskin, as we take a deeper look at why it's important to set boundaries (even for men!) and why we chose to write Boundaries in the first place. It's an episode you don't wanna miss! Follow Steve here: https://www.steveseskin.com/ https://www.instagram.com/steveseskinmusic/ https://www.facebook.com/steve.seskin.9…

New Month. New Theme. New Song. Let's talk about boundaries! I don't know about you, but I always viewed boundaries as a barrier between two objects, usually put up for safety or establishing lines. In this episode we debunk the common myth that boundaries are a negative thing, rather than a healthy way of communicating and establishing effective, loving relationships. Wanting to be perfect goes hand in hand with people-pleasing. Join me in this episode as we take a closer look at advice from Reshma Saujani, founder and CEO of Girls Who Code. In her book "Brave, not Perfect" she shares her journey from being a perfectionist to acceptance of being perfectly imperfect in order to live a more fulfilling, authentic life. Adulting his hard and complicated; but we are ultimately responsible for holding ourselves accountable for living authentically and by our truest selves. In this episode I am so fortunate to sit down with Nashville-based therapist Megan Flores, to talk more in depth about Where people pleasing comes from; Does your family or the way you were raised play a role in shaping that characteristic in you? And how does one heal from chronic people-pleasing? Megan shares her thoughts on the common trauma responses: fight, flight, and freeze and this "newer" term we both just learned about called fawning (or appeasing) and how “people pleasing” can be considered a response from trauma. We also talk about the Karpman Triangle, a model of dysfunctional social interactions that we all tend to fall in and out of at some point in our lives during conflict: the victim, the rescuer and the perpetrator (persecutor). The biggest piece of advice from Megan you'll walk away with is this - we're all human, we all make mistakes, but taking time for self-discovery and understanding that the things you choose to do are moving you forward. Take ownership of your happiness and stay curious. In this episode, we take a closer look at the story behind "Close to Home" written by Natalie Otto, John Salaway & Nick Serro. Do you feel like you're living in deja vu? Sometimes history does repeat itself; and in my case, it was a marriage that was failing, but sometimes in order to find balance you have to learn to let go of the things that are not working. People pleasers tend to say "yes" even when they mean "no". Learn why the power of saying "no" can help you set healthy boundaries so you can continue to show up for yourself and others at your fullest. Join me in this episode as we take a look at what advice Vanessa Patrick, PhD has to say about the subject in her book "The Power of Saying No". Follow us! @eagertopleasepodcast…
