Wedding planning doesn’t have to be stressful. Lindsay, what?! I’ll say it again for the people in the back: wedding planning doesn’t have to be stressful . In this episode of Quit Your Job, Sis: Unhinged, I share my hot takes on all things wedding planning: Your wedding planning mindset – you control whether it's stressful or not Nailing down your (and your partner’s) priorities – this helps you set a budget and focus on the things that you and your partner really value Why we’re doing a first look and private vows One thing about me: I will be snacking; a rant about the fact that we WILL be eating the food we selected for our wedding day In-laws/parents helping to pay for your wedding – you don’t have to do what they want just because they’re helping fund your budget Why I think wedding favors are completely overrated Whether you’re planning a wedding or have just gone through it, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you think wedding planning is stressful? Listen to this week’s episode to hear some unhinged thoughts on planning my wedding, what the process looks like, and why it's not as stressful as everyone claims. Have you ever stopped to think about the passage of time? How it never stops; how it's always moving forward? It can be a terrifying thought: not ever being able to return to a moment in time, never being able to go backwards, to get something back, but it can also be a powerful motivator. In this episode, I invite my long-time BFF Katie Meegs to sit down and chat about the essence of time: what even is it? Join us as we talk about: The realization that time never stops, how we’re all just winging it through adulthood The wisdom, confidence, and strengths that come with age, emphasizing that every year adds a new layer of knowledge and beauty into our lives The concept of time and existence and how time is not linear Embracing change: job dissatisfaction and self-awareness, prioritizing relationships, and enjoying the wild ride that is life Your Life Path: Is it manifestation, or is it the path you were always meant to be on? HOT TAKE: Hard work is not required for you to have a massively successful business. The corporate world has trained us to romanticize the idea of working 80-90 hour weeks, maybe making six figures, but being stressed out and not having time for our family, friends, or the things that we love. We call it hard work, but there is a big difference between working hard and working efficiently . When I first started my business, one of my ultimate goals was to have more time freedom. I didn’t want to be trapped behind a desk or sitting at a computer for 50+ hours a week just to feel exhausted at the end of the day and like I didn’t have enough time to spend with my family or to do the things I wanted to do. Recently, I read the book The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris. In it, he talks about the 80/20 rule, which is the concept that 20% of the work we do achieves 80% of our results. Imagine working an 80-hour week, and only 20% of the work that you do actually moves the needle for your career. What if there was a way to create incredible results by working smarter? If you’re ready to learn why I no longer place value on hard work but on results, growth, and efficiency in a business and why the real flex is working LESS and making MORE, then this episode is for you. Welcome to Quit Your Job, Sis: Unhinged, where I step away from my usual business and freelancing content to share unfiltered thoughts and opinions about things in my day-to-day life. In this episode, I dive into relationships, why being desperate to be in one can be problematic, and the importance of being content on your own before pursuing a partnership. I share why I initially resisted dating my now-fiance despite wanting to, and valuable insight on self-worth, happiness, and finding the right person. I talk about: Societal pressures on being in a relationship and the negative impact it can have on our values The dangers of desperation: how the mindset of needing to be with a person can lead to settling for the wrong person and missing red flags Codependency vs. healthy relationships: the importance of not relying on someone else for happiness or validation Releasing desperation and learning how to thrive in the single life If you’re someone who feels like they can never be happy single, I urge you to take a step back and examine why you feel that way. You are already so valued, loved, and important on your own. Your right person will find you when the time is right; it sounds cliche, but it’s true. Don’t settle for a relationship that doesn’t make your life better. What is the one thing you want to or need to do but are scared to pursue? You know, that thing that you keep putting off… Maybe you want to quit your job but are scared because you don’t have all the steps figured out yet, even though you know it's time to leave. Maybe you’re waiting to purchase your dream house or car, even though the opportunity is right in front of you, because making that huge investment is scary, and you don’t feel ready. I’m here to tell you it's okay to do things a little backwards. In this episode, I share how doing things in an unconventional way actually transformed my life and my business for the better. Before you say, “Lindsay, isn’t it kind of irresponsible to encourage this behavior?” listen to the episode. I quit my job before I felt ready and before I was ready on paper. Without a plan B or a second thought about “Is this the right time?” I quit because I knew I needed to leave. I knew I would just keep making excuses for myself if I didn’t. From there, my entire life changed in ways I could never have imagined. Are you ready to stop making excuses for why you shouldn’t follow your dreams? Are you ready to take the leap and do the thing you want, even though you’re scared? Tune into this week’s episode for a little encouragement to take that leap and for a reminder that it's okay to do life a little backwards. All that matters is that it works for you. We waste so much time and energy worrying about making the ‘wrong decision.’ This episode is meant to remind you that what’s for you will not pass you. You can’t fuck up, pass up, or ruin your chances with the things meant for you. As a firm believer that the Universe always has our backs, allow me to be a shining example of how this is true: Though we met in high school, there was a time when my now-fiance and I did not speak. We dated in college, broke up, and went our separate ways, but I always knew he was ‘the one.’ After briefly reconnecting years later (when I was living with a different then-boyfriend), we went our separate ways again due to the circumstances, and I didn’t think much of it. It was when we reconnected for a third time (I was single by this time) we began dating again and are now engaged and planning our wedding next year. The point of all of this? The Universe tried multiple times to get us to reconnect, leading me straight to the man I am now going to marry SEVERAL times before we finally decided to rekindle things. Another example: when it was time for my business to start growing, my workload with social media management became overwhelming. The first time this happened, I felt I wasn’t ready and let all my clients slowly slip away. But the Universe has my back and knows what’s right for me: a year or so later, I was presented with the same challenge again, only this time, instead of repeating the cycle, I leveled up and proceeded to hire additional help, increasing my capacity to take on more work, and therefore growing my business. The Universe will keep bringing you the same lesson and course-correct until you’ve learned and found the things that are for you. Why? Because you can’t fuck up, pass up, or ruin your chances with the things meant for you. Do you want to be a normal person, living a normal, average life? Or do you want to live a big, unrealistic, better-than-you-could-have-imaged life?? It’s time to start being delusional. How did the most successful people get to where they are today? Do you think it was by taking the safe, expected route - or by taking risks and making decisions that went against what’s “normal” and “safe”? They likely had a lot of people who doubted them along the way, and were waiting for them to give up on their “unrealistic” dreams. But they didn’t. Because they chose to be delusional and believe in the vision anyway. If you want to create a successful business, buy a home that feels out of your price range, and elevate and expand your life in ways you never thought possible, it’s time to be a little delusional. It’s time to believe in possibilities beyond what we as a society have collectively decided is ‘normal’ – beyond what other people are going to tell you is possible or is realistic for you. Whatever you want in this life is possible for you. Now it's time to go out and chase it.
