Join Liz on the Westerosi Primer as she explores the reign of Daeron II Targaryen. This king would later be remembered as Daeron the Good. This episode kicks off with an some listener feedback on the best and worst Targaryen kings. Liz starts with Daeron's formative years. She discusses his education and the union with Myriah Martell. This marriage brought peace with Dorne and paved the way for a new generation of Targaryens. The tension that marked Daeron's relationship with his father, Aegon IV, are explored. Daeron demonstrates his intelligence as he sidestep his father’s reckless actions. The episode also includes first Blackfyre Rebellion. Liz delves into the intricacies of loyalty, legitimacy, and power. Daemon Blackfyre had privileges he wouldn't have gotten if not for his parentage. Despite a thriving family life, Daemon becomes a challenger to his brother Daeron II. The Blackfyre Rebellion was fueled by discontent among the nobility and questions about Daeron's legitimacy. Daemon adopts the reversed Targaryen sigil and instigates the first of many rebellions. The Rebellion ends with the crucial Battle of the Redgrass Field. SYMPATHY = acknowledging that the other person is going through an emotional or physical struggle, supporting them and giving them comfort. EMPATHY = something more than just this. In this episode, Jared is once again joined by his good friend, Dr. Joshua Walters, PT, DPT, USAW-L1. The two reflect on the current events & civil rights protests and share their experiences. They discuss American history, Jim Crow, the Civil Rights Movement, what it's like to be a Black healthcare provider in America, Trump, Monopoly, Greg Glassman, microaggressions, and the power of having one-on-one conversations. Hope is a choice. Josh's challenge for you: Write out a list of questions including things you don’t quite understand about what’s going on right now. Try and find someone that looks like you to answer those question and then go find someone that doesn’t look like you to answer those same questions. Purposefully put yourself in a conversation that is uncomfortable. Lean into it & see what you can glean from that conversation. Growth comes from discomfort. What's up listeners! This week we talk to the legendary, Dr. Uchenna “UC” Ossai!! She shares her story of what sparked her interest in pelvic health. Dr. UC also discusses the importance of being comfortable with sexuality and the pelvic floor. We learn about the history of racism and oppression in healthcare and how this can affect how a provider addresses an individual's unique experience of pain. "These conversations recognizing advantages and disadvantages & how systems of oppression can influence one's experience of pain can be exhausting, however, it is important and requires internal work that isn't sexy, nor is tangible." Dr. Uchenna “UC” Ossai is a sex-positive pelvic health physical therapist and sexuality educator and counselor. Dr. UC is an assistant professor at the University of Texas Dell Medical School and also serves as the pelvic health program manager at UT Health Austin. She is on faculty for the University of Michigan, School of Social Work’s Sexual Health Certification Program. Dr. UC is one of few licensed physical therapists in the world with an AASECT certification in sexuality counseling; as well as the only Black physical therapist with this specific designation. She is also the founder of YouSeeLogic, an online platform that focuses on improving the sexual intelligence of ALL adults through innovative content and honest discussion that is free of judgment.
