Episode 59 The Practice of Living as we Intend. Part 2: Nothing is fixed. Everything shifts. Have you ever been in a place of question or concern, due to the realization that something that used to work—a routine, relationship, a way of doing something in particular, or a way of thinking—suddenly doesn’t work anymore? Perhaps it took you some time to come to this conclusion, that something is no longer working for you. Or it may be that change arrived abruptly, as if you opened your palm and it was handed to you. No doubt, that adjustment was felt immediately. It’s also possible that you are in the midst of an awareness of change taking place right now, as you read these words. Either way, nothing is fixed. This week in The Practice of Living as we Intend podcast, we're going to talk about some cycles and phases in life that we all go through, how one begets the other (each is necessary) and that no one is exempt. Episode 40 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast How often have you felt inadequate, and then gave up on giving all that you offer, or on doing something you truly desired? How about the feeling that you’re lacking in one way or another? I’m raising my hands over here! I have felt lack of the ability to accomplish many things, inadequate to communicate as I desire, and more times than I care to admit— feelings of insufficiency, in regard to what I have to give. Are we over-thinking? Are our eyes so focused on being a part of what others are doing, that we miss the opportunity to fully embrace what we already have to offer? Are we comparing? Did we forget our uniqueness? Join me in episode 40 of The practice of living as we intend podcast, as we discuss how to embrace the abundance that we already have. Episode 39 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast What ways will you choose to envision, schedule and pursue what you desire to accomplish in the year ahead? It's a new year, and as typical, many have new resolutions or goals set in place. How we approach 2018 is going to differ for us all. Whether you set goals or resolutions, have your list of 'should's and should not's' in place, I feel it is imperative to create a foundation to come back to—in order to live this year and beyond, how you desire. Join me in episode 39, as we discuss the unique foundation we each have in place, how it steadies us and how to continue to develop it. If life happens (as it will) , and a goal, resolution or circumstance isn't unfolding as you had planned, you can always come back to this. Thanks for listening in! I'm grateful you are here! Episode 34 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast Hello and Herete!!.... from the beautiful country of Greece! What a pure joy it is for me to connect with you during my travels abroad. I am feeling blessed, refreshed and truly open to receiving all the goodness that surrounds me from day-to-day. And might I add—it is indeed all around me! May we all be reminded that wherever we are, we have an opportunity to receive. I wonder, have you ever had an experience or a moment that arises and it becomes, what I'll refer to as an 'ah-ha' moment?! It's one that feels as though it reaches out and grabs you and brings you into the idea of it—the idea of its truth or the depth of what could become of it….( and might I add…I honestly live for these moments in my life, as they offer me the ability to live more as I am intended). I am honored to share that I was gifted one of these while traveling this week! And with my whole heart, I am sharing it with you. Side note: Although I believe gifts are truly all around us to untie—often you and I are unavailable mentally or spiritually to receive them. Yet know that when we are aware and open, they can be found in the most unexpected places…. And so, if what I share this week on the podcast speaks to you or resonates in some way that allows you to continue to feed your efforts toward growth in this journey of life— than I am fulfilling my heart’s desire. In all sincerity, I believe I have a message for you to hear. So, when you have some alone time (at the gym, doing laundry, dishes, going on a walk or simply sitting and offering yourself opportunity for growth), I would be honored to join you. Episode 33 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast When we initiate change or growth in our lives, and when we are outside of our comfort zone creating ‘new normals’ for ourselves, we are going to come across unexpected circumstances. Whatever area that you are specifically working on—a relationship with a person or your relationship with doubt or courage, your ability to find peace within your anxieties, your forgiveness toward another or toward a past situation—whatever it is, it’s going to be challenged. In my experience, all the worthwhile growth and change, is. Yet, we don’t have to allow these unexpected circumstances to throw us off course. This week in episode 33, I share about a challenging moment that I experienced last week—and I allowed it to cause a temper tantrum. It was absolutely unexpected and also absolutely humbling. Although our hearts and minds may be convinced of desired improvement, what about our actions and reactions? Are they following suit? Join me as we discuss re-framing how to accept the challenges that arise on the day-to-day, and how we can we can give life to the steadiness of continued growth! Let down your guard friend. You don’t have to catch every curve ball. Episode 32 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast Have you ever struggled with feeling content just as your life is, right now? Are you focused on something you miss from your past, or anticipating something specific to take place in your future? Perhaps one, the other, or both, are keeping you from feeling content with wherever you are in your life right now. I have indeed struggled in this area. In this episode we redefine what we consider contentment to look like in our lives and why it's an important practice. 'Being content' does not have to suggest that you are necessarily happy with wherever you are in your life in this very moment. You may not even want to stay in whatever circumstance that you are currently in. However, there is value within the transitional space that fits between our past and our future. And value in being content within it. Today, let's dive into why and how we should honor this significant period within our lives! Episode 31 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast This week I'm asking us both to redefine our perception of what is relevant. I’m speaking of how we reach to achieve—and perhaps even please ego (to maintain our pride), vs. respecting the latter: a moment, a principle, our individual character or code. And even our unique ability to decide and take action on what is pertinent in our own unique lives, in any given season. What is relevant, should always be the authority over our routine. I'm so excited to dive into this subject with you, as I believe it will make a monumental impact within your life! xo~Big love, D Extra Resources: Sign up for Weekly Insights and Inspiration: http://eepurl.com/cvYEuD More notes from this show: http://www.beyouandthrive.com/relevant/ Read: Honoring the Space between the No Longer and the Not yet: http://www.ivoryandpine.com/2017/08/28/honoring-the-space-between-the-no-longer-and-the-not-yet/ Visit the Be You and Thrive website and connect with 'D' and an authentic community of women! www.beyouandthrive.com Providing women with educational tools & insightful resources to live an intentional lifestyle • • • Be You and Thrive is cultivating an authentic community of women who join together to encourage, empower, offer hope and ignite bravery. Episode 30 of The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast. As I reminisced, reflected and considered what I would speak about at my father’s funeral last weekend (or as we called it, his Celebration of Life), it caused me to travel back many a year in my mind and consider our experiences together. From there I thought about other family members and my relationships with them and also considered my individual relationships with my friends and my beloved husband. First I asked myself how I thought each person impacts my life and how . I wrote down their qualities, and their unique characteristics—a nd they each differed so much! Yet, every single one of them had something that uniquely touched my life like the other’s haven’t or couldn’t. When it comes down to it, we each have specific expectations for the relationships that we have with others. Of course, to have a healthy relationship with someone, there must be trust, loyalty and love, for example. But do we over-expect these individuals in our lives to fill a void within ours— that they may not be capable of filling? Much of what we expect from others, is due to a false-reality that we create. It’s giving someone a responsibility that they didn’t know they were given. And that’s not fair. We can only be who we each uniquely are. And we can only expect from others what they can uniquely give. I desire to deepen my value of the characteristics that each of my relationships have— because not one is the same. Join me in this episode as we continue our journey of learning together. Perhaps this week's podcast will have you rethinking your expectations and renewing bonds with the people you love most. xo~Big love, D Extra Resources: Sign up for Weekly Insights and Inspiration: http://eepurl.com/cvYEuD Read: Honoring the Space between the No Longer and the Not yet: http://www.ivoryandpine.com/2017/08/28/honoring-the-space-between-the-no-longer-and-the-not-yet/ Visit the Be You and Thrive website and connect with 'D' and an authentic community of women! www.beyouandthrive.com Providing women with educational tools & insightful resources to live an intentional lifestyle • • • Be You and Thrive is cultivating an authentic community of women who join together to encourage, empower, offer hope and ignite bravery. Episode 29 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast My family has had a theme for the days before dad’s passing and into this week. And it’s that, 'this time has been a sacred time.' When I think of sacred, I think of God being present, of peace, gratitude, love, compassion and empathy. I think of trusting God and dialing up my faith. I think of quiet, rest and ease. Today on the podcast as I honor my dad's life, I share a special song of ours that I believe was one catalyst over the years that allowed dad to feel peace during his various challenges with health. And I ask you and I to begin recognizing and creating more sacred moments within our life… as I know they are all around us…. xo~Big love, D Extra Resources: Sign up for Weekly Insights and Inspiration: http://eepurl.com/cvYEuD Visit the Be You and Thrive website and connect with 'D' and an authentic community of women! www.beyouandthrive.com Providing women with educational tools & insightful resources to live an intentional lifestyle • • • Be You and Thrive is cultivating an authentic community of women who join together to encourage, empower, offer hope and ignite bravery. Episode 28 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast In previous podcasts of The Practice of Living as we Intend, we’ve talked about how we often try to control the uncontrollable and how that process keeps us in a tailspin. Today, in episode 28, I'm sharing with you a practice that although may sound simple, can offer a huge outcome. And it’s trust. When we worry about what is taking place in our lives or the unknown, it gives way to anxiety and unease. And when worry becomes our focus, it also allows our mind to dwell on our difficulties and troubles. And quite possibly take away our ability to see the positive and beautiful circumstances that are also happening within our lives as well. I am so happy to have you join me in this podcast! Episode 26 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast Thrive for 5! An ongoing series of 5 minute podcasts that are packed with truths, greatness, and thoughts that I share, to be catalysts that motivate you toward change and growth. I’m in Hawaii this week, the sun has just risen and I am sitting a short distance away from the Pacific Ocean on the island of Lana’i. And nature has given me a nudge: I want to remind us both that there is something greater to experience within every day. In this 5 minute (or so!) episode, I ask us both several questions to get us thinking about our current, and often habitual, lifestyle patterns. Is there a deeper life beyond what we’ve currently created? A life that provides us daily renewal, moment by moment? Your life does have a greater purpose. And there is more to your everyday than the activities that your current role in life provides. I am grateful that you are here, listening in! XO~Mwah! Episode 25 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast This week I have, 'how do I influence people’s lives' on my mind. I've been sharing resourceful practices and my thoughts on the subject in the Be You and Thrive social media feeds and on the Thrive Blog. I have a huge heart and passion to influence others for the greater good on the daily. And I take it seriously as my life’s work. This week I find myself yielding at a cross-road that life provided and I’m taking the opportunity for a reset. I forget what people around me are enduring (none-the-less strangers)—And often I find that it takes getting stopped in my tracks until I take note. And quite frankly, I know, that isn’t living my life voluntarily. How can we use these and other life circumstances as catalysts to become more cognizant of the daily and bigger picture that surrounds our individual lives? Because they each can offer us more awareness and much needed growth. Living life with awareness is a discipline. And in this episode, I challenge us both to reset. Episode 24 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast Your passion will be valued by others, according to how much value you give toward your passion. Value is caring based. How much do you care about this passion of yours? Your purpose? Your dream? Your desires? Caring is also a responsibility. Caring about your passion/purpose/dream = being responsible to carry out your passion/purpose/dream. This week in the Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast, you'll want to grab a pen and paper for a 15 minute actionable exercise with me, as we layout a blueprint for how to develop more "care" when it comes to prioritizing your passions within your daily life. You're listening to Episode 21 of The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast. In the last episode of the podcast, I shared about my father who went through a battle with cancer in 2009. After years of surgeries, he had to make a decision and had his shoulder and arm amputated. I spoke of how he endured through this difficulty, and also through it, found strength, new perspective and a more loving and giving life. Over the last several months he has been going through some health issues and yesterday, I received a phone call that his cancer has returned. Today I talk (raw and real) about how we can adjust our reaction in difficult times. I hope this podcast helps you through your challenging experiences in life. And I am here for you, so please reach out in any way. You are important to me! xo~D Extra Resources: Sign up for Weekly Insights and Inspiration: http://eepurl.com/cvYEuD Summary of Podcast: Adjusting your reaction (00:40) I am deeply passionate about each of us allowing ourselves to be who we were intended. To live in the freedom of being uniquely you and to reap the benefits of thriving in all areas of your life. (1:30) Over the last several months he has been going through some health issues and today I received a phone call that his cancer has returned. (3:00) I need to share with you today that this podcast and the practice of living as we intend isn’t just to allot us direction in life or necessarily to get us through the easy stuff… (4:46) I want you to know today that my heart is absolutely breaking. But I also want you to know that I have experienced peace of mind in the midst of this storm. (6:35) There is hope to be found in our darkest hour. (8:11) And so begin giving yourself time to digest, before you react to the circumstance you are given. Of course, if it’s an emotional and raw situation, by all means allow yourself to be emotional and authentic and raw and real with it. (10:09) And so call upon your tribe. Don’t hide from them. And as you practice taking these actions, and begin releasing your “why” as Jenna did in her story, she released her “why me”, you will begin to find your peace of mind. (12:00) And I am here, present, through The Practice of Living as we Intend podcast, to share it with you! You're listening to Episode 10 of The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast. Have you ever gone through something in life and felt like throwing up your hands as if in ‘I surrender mode?’ or thought to yourself, ‘What else could possibly happen? Today in the podcast, I definitely get a little emotional as I share some personal 'raise the white surrender flag' experiences with you. I also share why I believe we have a choice to evolve from them and how to do it. This is life. It's full of the 'what else could possibly happen' stuff—and it's also full of the 'how amazing that this happened' stuff! There is a reason why I practice living my life with intention. And I share it with you today, as I celebrate my 20th podcast episode!! I would be honored if you would leave a review and subscribe to the podcast! Today is the 20th episode and I am celebrating this journey with you!! Thank you in advance. I appreciate you!! xo~D Extra Resources: Sign up for Weekly Insights and Inspiration: http://eepurl.com/cvYEuD Summary of Podcast: Are you Evolving or Revolving? (00:53) Have you ever gone through something in life and felt like throwing up your hands as if in ‘I surrender mode?’ or thought to yourself, ‘What else could possibly happen?’ (2:27) If we take the growth on board, this is how we individually evolve, find our purpose, find acceptance, healing, and I’ll go as far to say we find our freedom to live. (4:05) Several years ago my father was diagnosed with bone cancer. I remember his first surgery when the oncologists went in and got all the cancer. But then unfortunately, it reappeared. (6:09) That period of decision-making was a real difficult one for my father. I don’t know his exact thoughts, but I know that each of us know what the fear of the unknown is like. (8:20) He allowed his circumstance to open up the gift of growth in his life. (10:05) I actually love that phrase 'perfectly imperfect.' Maybe it’s the intense person in me who is content that at least I get to use the word ‘perfect’ some how in my life! (12:18) In those hardest moments, in the moments where you are confused, in the moments where you have no words, in the moments where you are feeling overwhelmed, in the moments when you don't have a solution, in those moments when you feel like you have a roadblock in front of you—Don’t revolve. Choose to Evolve. This is how I choose to evolve... (14:15) Which leads me to gratitude. Every day, every hour of the day, we can look around us and see something we should be ecstatically grateful for. But we’re human and we forget. So I also practice seeing differently. (16:14) And when you are open to it, I promise you that people will cross your path that. You. Need just in the right moment. And it will be completely unexpected and it will also be a complete gift. (18:15) See the greater good. See the change in you. Note the growth. learn to adapt to evolve to grow and to become the woman that you were intended to be. I appreciate you!! xo~D Extra Resources: Sign up for Weekly Insights and Inspiration: http://eepurl.com/cvYEuD Summary of Podcast: Are you over-thinking? (00:33) At the beginning of this week I shared on social media that I was going to practice the art of “under thinking” aka be aware of my over-thinking. (3:49) Let me share some research with you…. every day the average person has about 50,000 thoughts. And Some researchers put that number at 70,000 thoughts per day. (5:40) And low and behold, I couldn’t concentrate … (7:02) Suddenly, I began to feel the water’s cool breeze, and I began to feel the sun shining on my face as it was rising and I could hear the waves clapping so powerfully. (9:18) And so I want us both to consider how much we over-think. (11:17) Are you re-hashing yesterday, last month, a meeting you had or a conversation that took place a week ago. I wish I would have. I would be happier if. (13:40) Next, challenge yourself and challenge what you’re thinking. Is it over-exaggerated? What’s the opposite of this thought? (15:00) Begin to get your feet wet a little more and engage in productive thoughts that have themes of believing in yourself and believing in others. (16:16) You can guide your thoughts. I’m feeling a bit fired up today…And I think it’s because I was without technology last week (no computer or iPhone!) (2:35) One evening we were discussing some of my projects that are in development stages. I was telling him about my timelines, collaborations and goals. (4:15)Some of you may know I have a passion for athleticism. I was a personal trainer and cycling instructor for fun on weekends and evenings when I lived in Ann Arbor, MI. (5:25) When you think of climbing what do you think of? It’s hard work, right? It’s slow and takes a lot of effort. It can be strenuous. (6:34) “The basic science suggests that you are best to work hard when you are battling up hills or facing into a headwind than when you are speeding along an easy flat section or a downhill part. (7:47) And do you want to know how they train to better their climbing skills? (8:55) We can’t possibly learn how to be able to pedal flat out on a climb and make real gains if we’re always climbing… (10:02) We don’t always have to be climbing. And quite frankly we can’t and there is no gain in it anyway. (11:32) And I’m raising my hand over here and sharing that I can get stubborn and forget what it takes to climb. Sometimes my hustle mentality thinks I not only need to climb, but I need to do it quickly—and I’m missing the point!! I’m missing the process. (00:55) I see a lot of us holding back from using all that we have to offer as unique individuals. Honestly, there are times that I hold back giving all that I have to offer. (3:49) Have you ever thought, ‘Is what I have to offer REALLY desired by someone? Is it really needed?’ (5:00) There is no doubt that we each have a uniqueness about us. You have rare characteristics that others don’t possess. (7:18) In our incredibly creative and hi-tech society, there are millions of avenues to use as vehicles to get our unique message across. (9:24) And I witnessed her struggle of having to let go of this gift she was given to publically speak. It was hard because once you fully comprehend the worth, value and responsibility we each have to share our gifts with others, it’s devastating to not be able to use a gift that you were given. (11:05) You see, our gifts are adaptable and the vehicle that you use, to offer what you have to give, isn’t as important as the offering itself—it’s the passion within their use that matters. (13:30) What other people think about me is none of my business. (16:21) And at that place you are independent of the negative opinions of other people. I believe this is one of the greatest gifts of freedom. There is no time or reason for comparisons when it comes to sharing what we uniquely have to give. We have something unique to offer to the world, and that it must come alive in our hearts before the world will ever see it. http://beyouandthrive.com/getting-fired-changed-life/ Resources for Growth: Choose the uncomfortable path Do you have specific hopes and desires that you wish to fulfill? Do you crave happiness, peace and seek connection with others? How about this: Have you also experienced seasons of uncertainty when you haven’t felt fulfilled, lost some of your hope or didn’t have the peace that you fully needed? This moment that you are feeling serves a particular purpose. Find out why... http://beyouandthrive.com/choose-the-uncomfortable-path/ Summary of Podcast: What is your 'why'? (00:48) Have you ever asked, ‘Why me?’ Have you ever thought. ‘I don’t deserve this!’ (1:37) But at this time of my life, I lived in a community about 40 minutes from the city. Every day I would commute back and forth to work. (2:32) Next came a visual and sound that I will never forget—flames as far as the eye could see, smoke jetting out of the door and a noise resembling a fierce wind whipping through a tunnel. (3:39) It was painful and heartbreaking, as I went through stages of feeling sorry for myself and dealt with emotions of frustration, anger and confusion. (4:42) Maybe your ‘Why’ has been: ‘Why do I have this illness?’ Or ‘Why do I have this setback?’ How about ‘Why was I raised that way?’ Or ‘Why am in this situation?’ ‘Why is my life so hard and others seem so easy?” (6:18) And so today I have a reminder for you and I. As I sit here and I think of every friend that I have and I think of family member. I can pinpoint what fires they have been through. And some are in the midst of one as I speak. You are not alone. (7:45) You just stand. When all your courage seems to fail. Stand. When it seems that evil will prevail. Stand. For he shows us in detail that his love will never fail and he’ll stand with us. You just stand. (9:04) But in all my experience, I personally don’t think there is an answer to this question. But this is what I do think: Instead of placing your energy on asking ‘Why’—just simply stand. Live your life from day to day and when the time is right and you’ve gained the strength you need and you’ve gained new perspective, walk through it, walk onward and walk past what seems to be like the fire that you are experiencing in your live. (10:56) Refine: Clarify, filter, process, strain, better, enhance, forward. (12:07) In the mist of your most difficult circumstances, your life transitions. When you are uncomfortable, confused or experiencing your ‘why.’ Let it be your refining moment. Accept some of the greatest gifts of discovery, healing, gratitude, of grace and strength—that can only be offered during these times in your life. (14:14) What in your life, feels like you’re going through ‘a process?’ What circumstance can you look at in a different way and see how it is refining you? What do you feel you have lost the courage to do and are you willing to stand through it? What is your ‘why’? ••••• Visit the Be You and Thrive website and connect with 'D' and an authentic community of women! www.beyouandthrive.com Providing women with educational tools & insightful resources to live an intentional lifestyle • • • Be You and Thrive is cultivating an authentic community of women who join together to encourage, empower, offer hope and ignite bravery. I’m sitting in a my living room at a round table with coffee table books stacked up and flowers in a vase in the center. Honestly, it’s pushed to the side at the moment, because I’m recording in front of it. (2:21) I don’t know about you, but I crave realness. I think because for so many years I didn’t realize the pure gift of freedom that honoring myself and therefore living just as I am (in the now) would give—that I almost want to make up for it and be 101% authentic! (3:39) When we practice living authentically as our selves, we begin to realize the reward of calling on every ounce of bravery that we have, in order to tell any and all of our feelings of inadequacy to take a hike. (4:37) Authenticity offers you a roadmap for life. As we begin to make authentic choices for ourselves, we will begin to genuinely follow our heart, our faith, our values and ethics. These intentional choices will eventually direct a path for our lives. (5:55) It offers you stronger relationships with others. Living from a place of authenticity allows you to share your pure and genuine self with others. (7:57) With each decision you choose, to live in the freedom of being yourself, that door opens an inch and it opens another inch with the next decision, and the next.. (8:57) I was given a book in my 20’s called the Velveteen Principles and have since gifted it to others since. It’s based on the children’s story about the Velveteen rabbit (perhaps I am dating myself!). (10:59) Where do we find honesty, real values, real love and real life? (1:39) I’m certain that we all realize the value of choosing like-minded people to surround ourselves by, but do you actually take action and ‘choose?’ (4:29) I’m so glad I am experiencing this with you right now because when I asked myself these questions, it caused me to realize that there are people in my life right now that are there for a reason. They are serving a purpose! (6:34) As you may know, I have since moved on from that career, but as I look back, I am wow’d by the people that I ended up being introduced to during those years! (7:19) That transition of moving away, was really hard—but through it I learned some valuable lessons that may resonate with you. One is that it’s important that we are open to forming new relationships (and without qualifiers like age or what they do for a living, or how or where we connect with them). (9:10) And finally, the distance caused me to do some gardening within my relationships—some tilling, weeding and some replanting. (11:36) Do not take on mental anguish when allowing relationships to transition in your life. You are not losing a relationship, in fact you are taking all the amazing influence it had with you. (13:15) I’m going to share with you 10 intentional practices that you can use to bring positive influence and change into the lives of others. Summary of Podcast: Recast your Day (00:36) I have been in the mulligrubs! Earlier this week I had a mulligrub kind of a day. I was feeling off, a bit in a low mood, and in turn I ended up having a day that I really didn’t plan to have! I’m talking #peanutbutterjaruntwists and I am on the couch kind of day! (1:20) A dear person in my life said to me yesterday, ‘You know ‘D’ you can recast your day at any point.’ (2:58) In this episode we’re going to explore how we can practice recasting our moment or even our day when needed. (3:50) In either circumstance, experiencing a low mood or being in the midst of an extreme difficulty, allowing others to be a part of our lives or our circumstance is a valuable foundation. (5:16) I think part of the instinct to withdrawal from people, has a lot to do with our expectations. Modifying the expectations we place upon ourselves, (and the ones we also think others have for us), allows us to begin to feel the freedom to be who we truly are and do what we once doubted. (7:18) Another form of recasting our moment or mood, is paying attention to our thoughts. I know that our thoughts become habits and CAN be retrained when purposefully attended to. (9:14) Lastly I have to share that I think we could all use a little more light-heartedness in our lives. I think this keeps life a bit more in perspective. ••••• Visit the Be You and Thrive website and connect with 'D' and an authentic community of women! www.beyouandthrive.com Providing educational & insightful resources for women— by women. • • • Be You and Thrive is cultivating an authentic community of women who join together to encourage, empower, offer hope and ignite bravery. You're listening to Episode 09 of The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast. Do you feel like there is always 'something else' that you are striving for? And what we may be missing when we are not living in the present. Join me and listen, reflect and be inspired, as we practice ‘Living as we Intend’ together! Insight from Thriving Women: Click here to meet Meredith Boggs, Marriage Columnist for Radiant Magazine."The pull to perform, to try harder, and be better in every arena of my life is something I have always felt very strongly. If I wasn’t doing well, then I needed to try harder." Read Meredith's insightful article about how Grace Wins Out. Summary of Podcast: Savor the Present (1:17) “Embrace your life! Accept it—Just as it is, right now. So that those moments of happiness that you're waiting for don't pass you by.” As I read the responses that were shared within that topic’s feed, I resonated with many of your thoughts and stories. (So much so, that I got permission from a few to share their insight). (3:13) And what I find ironic is that there are two different ‘reasons’ for not accepting or embracing life as it is right now. (4:30) I think we’ve proven that this ‘space in between’ is often difficult to settle in to. It’s transitional no matter what our circumstance. (6:14) But because these things have already happened or are not going to happen, they are not a part of our ‘present moment.’ And our focus should be practicing how to move forward, while allowing ourselves to grow from the experience. (8:06) During these difficult transitional seasons of life, I like to frame it with a word. And the word I like to use is ‘sit’. Because when we sit, we are still, and we’re not moving anymore. Normally when you’re sitting, it’s a restful time, right? (10:00) I think this idea of looking ahead can get sticky in regards to it’s meaning. When I think about the quote I’ve referred to, ‘Honor the space between the no longer and the not yet, ‘ I don’t think it has anything to do with laying our dreams down or foregoing our hopes and desires for our future. (11:11) In these instances, I don’t know exactly what we are looking for. I think it’s very unique to each of us. Perhaps it’s a feeling that we are lacking or missing out on what we haven’t yet experienced. Maybe our focus is too much on what others are accomplishing and we feel the need to catch up. (12:38) Let’s not miss the gifts that can be found within each of our present moments. And let’s practice becoming more aware that they are there. Gifts may come in the form of people who deposit wisdom or love into your life, they may offer knowledge for your next steps. (13:41) I was inquisitive about how ‘honoring’ was defined and so I did some research: And words like celebrate, confidence, trust and greatness came up. (15:09) It caused me to stop and think as I was considering what to teach about in this week’s podcast: Perhaps this is how we should think about our present moment. Perhaps our present moment (that space in between our past and our future) is just too beautiful and meaningful to define. And perhaps we should live in it as if we want to savor it forever. (Have you figured out that I like to stretch every celebration out as long as possible?). I had such a great time celebrating with so many of you on social media. My favorite post was by a dear friend of mine, who shared this quote by Sark: ‘The circles of women around us weave invisible nets of love that carry us when we’re weak and sing with us when we are strong.’ (2:07) I didn’t realize the value of intentionally choosing who I surrounded myself by, until later in life. (And this is Practice # 7). What is truly magnificent about the relationships that we choose, is the ability to have people in our lives fulfill spaces that we may not be capable of filling. (3:38) I want to go back and use the analogy of the 'invisible net'. I think that we each, as unique individuals have our very own invisible nets. And these 'nets' are gifts that we can offer to others within the relationships that we have. (5:39) As we continue through these 10 practices that cause us to live life with more awareness and intention, each one prepares us for this next practice: which is pursuing our passions, gifts and desires. Practice # 8. (7:00) I will tell you what I think is scalable; And it’s the “time spent” making a difference in this world via your gifts, talents and passions. In my view, when we authentically use what we have to offer to others, how we can serve others, there is ‘no better than’ label. It’s the most rewarding time you will spend in your life. (8:26) Are you ready to get a little uncomfortable with me? When we begin to pursue serving others in a deeper and authentic way, we will find ourselves in a position where we feel as though we are taking risks. And this is Practice # 9 (11:30) Let’s celebrate the small stuff that adds up to the monumental. Let’s recognize all the good, all the growth and all the positive change. Let’s place our energy toward celebrating the process of our progress. Summary of Podcast: 10 Practices to living with more awareness and intention Part 2 (00:35) I’m in Cartagena and Bogota, Colombia this week with my husband. We have an annual tradition to travel over one of our birthdays, as they are a week apart. I’m hoping you can hear the birds in the background as I record this podcast live from outside. (1:57) “Oh lord it’s hard to be humble, when you’re perfect in every way!” Oh vulnerability, humility and pride. Vulnerability is allowing ourselves to be accessible, exposed and ready. (3:43) Self-love has so much depth to it; So much so that I like to narrow it down to two practices: caring about oneself and taking responsibility for oneself. And I believe you have to learn how to do the first (caring), before you can act on the second (taking responsibility). (5:55) When I think of giving myself grace, I think of allowing myself to be refined because I know I am human and therefore I know I am imperfect. With each allowance of grace that we give ourselves, all the sharp edges (our imperfect), begin to be polished into something smoother. Insight from Thriving Women: Click here to read Jen Wille's inspiring writing contribution in the Thrive Blog: Love is always present. Summary of Podcast: (00:32) I’m back from an unexpected whirlwind. Earlier this week, My mother called me at 3:14 PM, which is the time that I was born 45 years ago. My father and she have called me ever since I can remember. (1:37) That day 'life happened,' and I experienced both the ebb and the flow. I felt so much love and was honored by all of the kind birthday sentiments I received, and then that afternoon my heart became heavy as I received notice that my father had a stroke. (3:21) And it got me thinking and I’m going to be daring and speak for us all, because we are all human—we forget to pause and wholeheartedly feel, love, and share the depth of this life, during the everyday grind. Why does it take these moments, these difficulties to seemingly knock us off our feet to be reminded of these things? (4:15) And so over the next few episodes of this podcast, I am going to share 10 practices that I personally live by, which has caused me to learn how to live each day with more intention. (6:45) Turning off autopilot has been such an important process in my life. We all know that we can't change what happens in our future, but if we don’t turn off autopilot, we have lost our ability to properly navigate our ‘now’. (9:16) As I continue to share these 10 practices with you over the next few episodes, you’ll begin to understand that each lead to a process, that unveils more about who you are and will help you sort out these ‘emotions’ and questions. It’s why the practice of living intentionally is so important to me. (1:50) I departed the next morning and headed to the Yucatán peninsula in Mexico —I love Mexico. It really has a special place in my heart. (3:27) So when my husband shared about his upcoming travels, I thought, ‘This is it. It’s perfect timing.’ And I’ll be honest with you, I had some doubt arise. (5:11) Have you ever thought that you’re not enough? Or observed others work on social media and thought, ‘She is so much more gifted than I…?’ (7:40) You see, we forget about all the work it took to be where we are today in our individual lives. We forget to continue to recognize and celebrate our change and our growth. (11:40) I looked up the definitions of optimism and had to smile big: confidence, certainty, enthusiasm, happiness, calmness, cheer, trust, encouragement—and the list goes on. (12:53) I chose to take 5 simplistic and ordinary days and they became 5 extraordinary days and a memory I will carry for my lifetime. And I want to offer the same opportunity to you! You're listening to Episode 04 of The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast. In today's podcast, I’m authentically sharing something with you that I’m going to do this coming week— that I’ve never done before. It means so much to me in regards to the practice of ‘living as we intend,’ and it’s also symbolic. I have a question for you and something I’m asking you to do with me as well. Join me and listen, laugh and perhaps shed a tear or two, in this meaningful episode, as we practice ‘Living as we Intend’ together. Summary of Podcast: (00:29) This podcast is all about the practice of ‘Living as we Intend’ and so today I’m going to share something with you in regards to what’s going on in my life at the moment. (1:21) Let me give you some back-story: Is there anyone that’s currently in your life, or that you’ve met along the way, who is has what I’ll define, as a ‘no fear mentality’? (2:57) I personally will never forget that race because I realized the symbolic healing it also had on my life. The tears shed as I really allowed myself to feel the sorrow of what I imagined his struggle must have felt like, also allowed me to release some of my past struggles. (4:42) So may I remind you that this girl speaking to you right now, grew up in a small town in Michigan. (5:58) These difficulties that we endure are life-changing and are actually the seasons in life where we can grow the most as individuals. (6:36) One thing in life that’s really important to me is that I continue to overcome my thoughts of doubt. (8:00) I plan on laughing and I plan on smiling and probably shedding some tears with no one else but the girl who’s yapping away at you right now on a podcast she never in a million years thought she’d be sharing. (9:45) Do me a favor and ask yourself this simple question.. You're listening to Episode 03 of The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast. Today on the podcast our focus is 'success' and what it means to us as individuals. When I think of ‘success’ I define it a bit differently than most. I’m not talking about achieving wealth or fame. I’m talking about the success that is bred from a conscious choice to move from your past, and into your present. It’s being accountable and using the gifts and talents that you have to offer. It’s the responsibility of creating your own happiness, or intentionally adjusting your life’s direction in any given moment, when you know you should yield, stop or turn around. Success is being fully engaged in your actions and your reactions. So how do we achieve this type of success? Summary of Podcast: (00:26) Before I launched the new website at the beginning of the year, I shared a post on my social media feed that said, ‘I’m launching my website tomorrow—Yes this is an accountability post!’ (1:03) There are various types of accountability. Unfortunately I think in general, the definition of ‘being accountable’ has gotten a negative reputation. (2:00) And when I use the word, ‘success’ I’m defining it a bit differently than most. I’m not talking about achieving wealth or fame. (3:15) Today we’re going to focus on three practices that can help you maneuver your way to the rewards of success, that stems from accountability. ••••• Visit the Be You and Thrive website and connect with 'D' and an authentic community of women! www.beyouandthrive.com Providing educational & insightful resources for women —by women. • • • Be You and Thrive is cultivating an authentic community of women who join together to encourage, empower, offer hope and ignite bravery. You're listening to Episode 02 of The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast. Today's podcast is about making choices. On a daily basis we make choices— and many without even thinking. And I wonder if we truly became more aware of how we chose to respond to situations that we are confronted with— if our lives might be different? Let’s dig a little deeper together as we practice becoming more aware of all of the choices that we are offered each day. Summary of Podcast: (0:00) On a daily basis we make choices—and many without even thinking. And I wonder if we truly became more aware of how we choose to respond to situations that we are confronted with, how our lives might change or how our lives might be different. (1:24) I believe that we can 're-define' how we think about these areas that we get stuck in, our difficulties and challenges that we are presently experiencing. (2:47) But what’s so interesting about that thought process, is that it is so ingrained in each of us to not choose to see the positive. In reality, choosing to stay in your difficulty, will be more hurtful and will be more damaging to your future then if you choose otherwise. (3:38) And so when we are confronted with making a choice—such as not allowing a hard time in life to crush us or to bring us discontentment or cause us to lose our hopes and our dreams—we have the ability to allow our thoughts and actions to take over and redefine our circumstance. (4:08) I’m asking you and I to dig a little deeper together. There is so much more out of this life that we can experience by the choices that we decide to make and I believe that you and I are not maximizing that full potential yet. So join me as we practice becoming more aware of all of the choices that we are offered each day. As we improve our awareness, each difficulty “which I will refer to as opportunities” can be life-changing. Episode 01 The Practice of Living as we Intend Podcast Today I reflect on my experiences during the launch of the Be You and Thrive website last week. I was reminded of two powerful words—dare greatly—and share how they relate to us all. Summary of Podcast: (00:53) For many years, my vision or passion was blurred due to what I saw others accomplishing. I would sit back and think, ‘Wow! I wish I could be so brave!’ Or ‘What a great idea—they will meet so many needs with what they are doing.’ (1:28) We each have a growth period in our lives where we are being prepared to share our gifts and talents. And for me, celebrating other’s achievements was actually a part of that growth period. (1:50) But we are going to go through these seasons in our lives over and over again—seasons of being prepared and then seasons of bloom. (2:20) What others offer doesn’t diminish what you have to offer the world.
