In the late 19th century, oil was found on land owned by the Osage people in Oklahoma. By the 1920s, this oil, as well as smart negotiating moves by the Osage, would make the Osage people “the richest nation, clan, or social group of any race on earth, including the whites, man for man.” Of course, this made the Osage targets of those who wanted their money.
