As 'Wicked' fever continues to thrive, for this latest episode we’re taking a walk back to an illuminating interview that Jon & Sean conducted with the entirely brilliant Composer John Powell, who returns to this very Podcast following on from his chat about ‘Migration’ earlier last year. Joining him, an incredible treat in the form of iconic songwriter and lyricist for songs of the stage and screen, the masterful Mr Stephen Schwartz and both discussing the music of the feverishly popular and hugely successful film adaptation of ‘Wicked'. The interview, originally broadcast back in November on Express FM in line with the film's theatrical release, was, we are very happy to say, well received and now, for the first time and to celebrate the home release of the film this weekend, you can hear it completely uncut, in it’s full form, here on the ‘Scoreheads’ Podcast. Stephen Schwartz, is a multi award winning titan of the musical stage and screen in his role as a famed musical theatre and musical film Composer & Lyricist, who has written such hit musicals as ‘Godspell’, ‘Pippin’, and of course, ‘Wicked’. He has also contributed lyrics for a number of successful films, including ‘Pocahontas’, ‘The Hunchback Of Notre Dame’, ‘The Prince Of Egypt’, and ‘Enchanted’ and recently adapted his celebrated work on ‘Wicked’ for the silver screen, with our next guest. Our second guest, John Powell, is a returning guest and has worked with Stephen on both the score for ‘Wicked’ and in the late nineties, as part of Hans Zimmer's team on the soundtrack to Dreamworks first huge animated theatrical release ‘The Prince Of Egypt’. Since then of course and in-between both ‘The Prince Of Egypt’ and ‘Wicked’ he has composed music for some huge films, both animated and live action, including creating sensational music for ‘Antz’, ‘Chicken Run’ and ‘Shrek’ (with Harry Gregson-Williams), ‘Face / Off’, the 'Jason Bourne' films, ‘Robots’, ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’, ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’, the ‘Ice Age’ movies, ‘Happy Feet 1 & 2’, the ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ films, ‘Star Wars: A Solo Story’ and many, many more. They join Jon & Sean, on this latest episode of 'Scoreheads'. Presenting to you the next in our series of ‘From The Archives’ episodes where we revisit an interview with a Composer that was perhaps previously only heard via the medium of Radio and not yet available online or presented on another platform in another format in a shorter form or just to revisit to celebrate an anniversary or special occasion. In the case of this episode it’s all of the above as we celebrate the anniversary of the brilliant turn based video game based on the phenomenal ‘Alien’ franchise - ‘Aliens: Dark Descent’, the flurry of love for the superb DLC for the game in recent months, as well as the surge of ‘Alien’ mania that’s been going on recently with both the launch of ‘Alien: Romulus’ in cinemas and the announcement of ‘Alien: Earth’ on streaming this year. With all of that in mind, then who better to revisit for this classic episode from just over a year ago than one of the biggest, if not THE biggest fan of ‘Alien’ scores there is - Mr Doyle W. Donehoo, a Composer who himself got to live a lifelong dream of composing for the franchise with his superb score for ‘Aliens: Dark Descent’. No stranger to scoring for games - Doyle’s now infamous work in the 'Warhammer' universe has seen him write music for huge titles such as 'Warhammer 40, 000 Dawn Of War II', 'Dawn Of War II - Chaos Rising', 'Dawn Of War II - Retribution', 'Space Hulk: Deathwing', ‘Sniper: Path Of Vengeance’, ‘Sniper: Ghost Warrior’ and many, many more. Last year, Doyle joined Sean Wilson and Jon Brown to discuss his life, his work, his passion for science fiction, his love of music for the ‘Alien’ and ‘Star Wars’ films and much more. So please sit back and do enjoy this chat now for the first time ever to be released anywhere in it’s full, uncut, expanded glory as we revisit, at the height of ‘Alien’ fever - the music of the game ‘Aliens: Dark Descent’. There's also a wonderful interview from our good friend Hayley Donaghy as she waxes lyrical on 'The Lazarus Project' Season 2 with the show's Writer Joe Barton and there's all your usual agenda items including a moderate pick 'n' mix of News, Trailer Talk, the latest releases at the Cinema, on Streaming, Digital, 4K, Blu-Ray and DVD releases too. And, rounding us out is an all singing, all dancing Tip Top 5, in which we read out YOUR Tip Top 5 Musicals (and no we don't break into song randomly in order to announce them, although, we probably should have done). All this and more, tightly wrapped up in this week's candy covered instalment of 'We're Gonna Need A Bigger Pod'!
