Big Idea: God Designed us for Relationships Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper corresponding to him.” 1 Corinthians 7:8-9 I say to the unmarried and to widows: It is good for them if they remain as I am 9 But if they do not have self-control, they should marry since it is better to marry than to burn with desire. He’s NOT JUST talking about MARRIAGE Genesis: 2:23b This one, at last, is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called “woman,” for she was taken from man. First: God did not say that it is not good for people to be single. Singleness is not a sin!!! Second: We have a God-given need for a relationship with other people RELATIONSHIP IS A CORE NEED CHRONIC LONELINESS IS AN EPIDEMIC IN OUR COUNTRY 46% OF AMERICANS SOMETIMES OR ALWAYS FEEL ALONE 43% OF AMERICANS SOMETIMES OR ALWAYS FEEL THAT THEIR RELATIONSHIPS ARE NOT MEANINGFUL LONELINESS INCREASES THE RISK OF DEATH BY 30%-60% WE ARE DEPRIVING OURSELVES OF A GOD GIVEN NEED FOR RELATIONAL CONNECTION
