125. Envy-The Silent Killer in Marriage
Manage episode 382635146 series 3258918
Do you envy your spouse? Is this leading to unsaid, unmet, or unrealistic expectations that can bring about dicontentment and bitterness? Envy in relationships is a killer! It kills joy and peace. It doesn’t call you or your spouse to what can be, but holds you both captive.
We found in our own marriage that this has crept up more than we could have imagined, and continues to have a distinct impact on how we view one another and certain situations.
1st Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
- It does not envy
The dictionary defines envy as, "a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck."
Our challenge for this week is to ask your spouse if there is something they envy about you, and how it is impacting your marriage, and to not respond defensively.
