Climate Courage: The Fire Age
Manage episode 376533400 series 2971792
In Canada, 13.7 million hectares of forest have burned (and continues to burn), which is twice as much as the 1989 record. We’ve seen fires in Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Portugal, Croatia, Algeria, Tunisia, and of course, the US, where the fires in Maui are the worst in its history. But we’re moving into Summer in the Southern Hemisphere now, and fires have already broken out in Australia, even though the fire season doesn’t typically start until October.
Recent headlines include: Australia braces for ‘harsh summer’ as ocean temperature warms; Australians urged to prepare for most significant bushfire season since black summer; and ‘Adapt or die’: Nightmare weather coming for unprepared Australia.
To help us dig into the risk for Australia and the wider conversation on global fire preparedness, I am delighted to welcome Graeme Thom AFSM, who caught my attention in the media during Australia’s black fire season because he didn’t hold back with his views - it was refreshing.
Do join us. This will be a revelation.

Whether individual action, community action, or national/global action - every single one of us can be part of ensuring a live-able future for our children and grandchildren. We owe them that!
