S9 Ep1 - Coronation special

The RG10 Podcast - featuring the people, places and events of interest across our area of the Thames Valley

In the days leading up to the coronation of King Charles III, The RG10 Podcast caught up with a couple of local initiatives that have been catching the imagination of residents.

First up, Ben speaks to Heather Howarth of the Hurst Hookers, the knitting and crochet group that has created a charming display around Hurst village pond over the past couple of weeks. The wooden posts have been converted into Grenadier Guards standing to attention around the King and Queen Consort and the Archbishop of Canterbury. There's even a Paddington Bear!

The work has been much admired by residents and visitors alike, and there has been a great response to images shared on social media. Hurst Hookers are using the display to raise money for The Cowshed, a Berkshire charity providing clothing and other items to people facing hardship - see donation link below.

We also hear from Martin Alder, Vice-Chairman of Twyford Parish Council, about the Coronation Picnic in the Park. Everyone is invited to come together at Stanlake Meadow in Twyford from 10am on Saturday 6 May for the live screening of the coronation, followed around 2pm by the children's film Encanto, then live music from the band BoxSet from 4pm to 6pm.

In terms of refreshments there will be a bar run by the organisers of Twyford Beer Festival, food from the Rural Pie Co. to supplement your picnic, and treat yourself to something sweet from Maurices Ice Cream.
