1 Starting Out
Manage episode 366673468 series 3485950
In 1888 The Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould set himself the daunting task of collecting the folk songs of his native Devonshire, and later Cornwall, before they died out with their ageing singers. If he had not done so then this important part of our traditional musical heritage would have been lost forever. This first episode tells the story of how he began this project that would consume him for the next fifteen years. As the Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould said: He considered it to be 'the most important achievement of his life'.
Please can you help by supporting the show. I have always kept the episodes commercial-free, but in order for the podcasts to continue I need some support, if you are able, to pay for equipment and upload charges. If you can donate $15 or more, and provide me with some mailing details, I will even send you a copy of my CD 'By Chance It Was' recorded with John Kirkpatrick at The Eden Project, Cornwall!
Please contact me at theparsonandthesongmen@outlook.com if you have any questions about the podcast series, or about The Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould in general!
Also, please email or use the facebook page (below) if you would be interested in booking me for a gig telling the story of Sabine's song collecting and singing some of the songs he collected.
