#42 Why Do Your Best People Leave? | Leadership Vibes
Manage episode 311034126 series 3081085
Happy Monday everyone! I hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday weekend! Today is the first video in the leadership vibes series! I am excited to have a new cadence for my content and I am happy to try and cover leadership topics every. Single. Week.
Today is discussing why the best people quit your company. I believe it boils down to these 5 core requirements to a solid job.
The first is a lack of respect and/or trust. Respect and Trust are the basis of any successful working relationship. Whether it’s executive leadership or your direct manager, if you don’t trust or respect or feel trusted or respected, it is almost impossible to stay. Without this, the next 4 topics don’t mean anything.
The second is poor integrity among your leadership team. If you don’t believe someone to have integrity, it’s tough to push hard for those people, it’s even more difficult to stick your neck out for leaders that could throw you under the bus.
The third topic is an opportunity for growth, without this, you will lose your best talent. They want to crush everything you hand to them and grow as quickly as possible. Taking on more responsibilities, taking on difficult tasks, pushing people around them. Not having the room to climb in their role and pay grades will lead to resentment.
The fourth topic is Micromanagement, almost all of us can think of a job or a manager that drove us crazy. Hovering, second guessing, setting expectations without communicating them or just generally not giving you room to do your job and grow into your role. High valued people won’t tolerate this long, they are trusted, hardworking and successful contributors.
The last topic is feeling supported and appreciated, this is really everyone, if they don’t feel supported or appreciated, even the most impactful employee needs to know how good of a job they are doing. Without that, they will eventually feel unappreciated and competitors or other offices will be able to sway their allegiance.
Take care of all your employees, but keep a close eye on your top performers. Take care everyone!
