Today we investigate what I think is a striking lack of women represented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, especially the FinTech sector. With only 8% of leadership roles in FinTech companies held by women, I spend some time with Monica Eaton, Founder of LIFT to understand what might be happening, and more importantly what we can do to change this dynamic.
Monica Eaton is the owner, cofounder & COO of Chargebacks911, a FinTech company that helps merchants in 87 countries eliminate payment theft, prevent chargeback fraud and stop cyber-shoplifting. Since 2011, Chargebacks911 has successfully protected over 10 billion online transactions, and has recovered $1+ billion in disputed and/or stolen revenue for its clients. An industry trailblazer and leading advocate for expanded opportunities for women, Monica is the founder of LIFT, a nonprofit mentorship program that partners the next generation of women in STEM / Tech with established women executives from Microsoft, Chargebacks911, and more.
LIFT is a free mentorship program that seeks to bridge the gap between established women in the industry, and those who are still trying to find their way.
This meeting is a chance for the two to sit down and discuss the mentee’s unique situation. The mentor can provide actionable, specific advice that will serve to help the mentee advance her career.
Participants are asked to identify the professional challenge they are facing. This can range from interview advice, to making a big career move, or navigating through difficult workplace conversations. Once they have submitted a request, a virtual meeting is arranged with a mentor.
