Episode 58: Jason Hays TCRG on Finding Identity Outside of Irish Dancing
Manage episode 400958790 series 3100966
This episode is dedicated to the late Maureen McTeggart Hall. Maureen founded the McTeggart School in 1939 in Cork City, Ireland, with her three sisters. Peggy, Nancy, Maureen and Betty received instruction in the art of traditional Irish dance from Cormac O’Keefe, of the the great dancing masters of Ireland.
Maureen McTeggart Hall brought the school to the USA in 1959 when she emigrated to California with her husband and seven children. In 1976, Maureen was asked to travel to Colorado and provide instruction to the children of Denver’s Irish-American community.
Since that time the school has grown to include locations in Denver, Englewood, Boulder and Fort Collins, as well as New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Alaska.

Jason speaks about his journey to not one, but two World Championship titles, becoming a TCRG, and how he left the Irish dance world professionally. He enjoys supporting Irish dancing as a fan and former dancer and we discuss how he found peace with stepping back from teaching.
