On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chris Ostrander from Two in the Box blog and The Instigator Podcast to react to Buffalo Bills season ending press conferences from Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott in addition to discussing a Buffalo Sabres team Chris covers closely.

Chris is a very well respected blogger and podcaster in the Sabres community in addition to being plenty knowledgeable about the Bills and all things Buffalo, sports and otherwise. It's his first time doing Talking Buffalo and Patrick's excited because he's always been a fan of Chris' work.

Both Beane and McDermott spoke at length with the media on Thursday morning/afternoon and the guys react to what was said. As expected there wasn't any gasp worthy statements from either general manager or coach, but there's some lines that could be read between and both Patrick and Chris share opinions on what was said and their feelings about the team right now.

With Bills season over it's time to start devoting more attention to the Sabres (for better and worse) and that's a big reason why Patrick has Chris on. He kind of gives casual fans who've been all-in on the BIlls but transitioning over to the Sabres more now an update on what's been going on with the team this season and spoiler alert---it's been a disaster. They talk about Lindy Ruff, how this team is dead last in the Eastern Conference, a big trade target, why they stink so bad at home, if Keyvn Adams will/should be GM at the trade deadline, how quickly this team can realistically turn things around and tons more.

It's another edition of The Podbag on Talking Buffalo and Patrick Moran is responding to listener questions, comments and takes almost entirely focused on the Buffalo Bills, many of them contentious on how the Bills should proceed with this offseason. It seems pretty apparent that the Bills are looking to add a major piece or two to what's clearly a championship caliber roster led by a MVP quarterback. How Brandon Beane should prioritize handlings needs is hotly debated. There's certainly a school of thought that the Bills should trade for DK Metcalf, one of the best wide receivers in the game that Seattle is reportedly willing to shop. However, Patrick explains that while having Metcalf in the fold would be amazing, it absolutely shouldn't be their top priority. Instead, Patrick explains why adding a high impact pass rusher should be most important and makes his case for Josh Sweat of the Philadelphia Eagles, on the assumption Myles Garrett won't end up ultimately traded. Also, Patrick responds to someone asking him for the most realistic path to the Bills getting over the hump, if he'd have interest in Joey Bosa, is Kaiir Elam's time in Buffalo toast and a potential Garrett trade scenario. As of this recording nothing significant has happened with the Bills roster this offseason other than the extension of wide receiver Khalil Shakir. The guys react to Shakir's deal now that the full contract deals are available. It's another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo and Patrick Moran is responding to your questions, comments and takes primarily about the Buffalo Bills, including Patrick hammering home that everything should be on the table for the Bills defense, not just a prominent edge rusher. It's certainly understandable why the Bills adding a game changing type of edge defender is the central point of almost any Bills conversation. Their inability to get after the quarterback has hurt them greatly over the course of several recent playoff elimination losses. Improving there absolutely should and has to be at the forefront for general manager Brandon Beane. However, Patrick outlines why having just one guy isn't enough and the Bills should be targeting at least two prime time level defenders that will cost plenty and explains why everything should be on the table for the unit, including adding a second outstanding corner to pair alongside Christian Benford and/or a top end safety like a Javon Holland. Last year's strategy due primarily to economics was very straightforward. The Bills shed a lot of salary by jettison several players who were leaders and part of their core, a list that included names like Jordan Poyer, Tre White, Mitch Morse and Stefon Diggs. It was a very low-key free agency spearheaded by the additions of Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel. Things turned out wonderfully for Buffalo despite the mostly "uneventful" offseason from Beane and company. The expectation around league circles is different this time around. The Bills are expected to put some serious resources into a few positions, very likely on the defensive line above all else. Prior to there's several questions in need of discussing which the guys do, among them being what to do with Von Miller, is Daquan Jones addition by subtraction at this point of his career, what's their plan for attack at cornerback and what's their level of faith in safety Cole Bishop going into year two? Also, Matt has thoughts on what the price should be that Beane's willing to pay to acquire a Myles Garrett or Max Crosby if either player is actually available. A Few Buffalo Bills Offseason Moves That Could Surprise You 54:06

It’s another edition of The Podbag on this episode of Talking Buffalo, as Patrick Moran goes through several listener submitted questions and takes primarily on the Buffalo Bills, including going over three moves he can see Brandon Beane making over the next few weeks that could be a considered a surprise to many fans. With Buffalo making it to the AFC championship game before falling short to Kansas City for the fourth tie since 2020, it's highly unlikely we'll see any kind of major personnel overhaul. That doesn't mean there isn't changes to be made that matter. After being asked for a few potential surprise moves Patrick comes up with three, with two of them being departing ways with a pair of current starters that kind of fly under the radar, one on each side of the football. Potential Buffalo Bills RB and WR Free Agent Targets 58:37

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren (SB Nation) to discuss some potential Buffalo Bills running back and wide receiver candidates should the Bills end up deciding to dip their toes there in the upcoming NFL free agency market. While it feels like the Bills are pretty set at both those positions, that's at least potentially not accurate. Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins are both scheduled to become free agent wide receivers come March 10 and if the Bills lose one or especially both, they may need to turn to the open market to replenish. That goes the same for running back if they can't re-sign popular backup Ty Johnson. There's even a scenario where maybe Brandon Beane decides he's not going to deal with any potential James Cook drama and looks to trade the star, perhaps as part of a big trade package. In any event the guys go over several possibilities at both position, ranging from intriguing younger prospects to veterans where you're almost certain you'll know what you're getting. They also spend some time discussing an article from Mike Sando of The Athletic that suggested the Bills are going to have urgency to make a big splash this offseason if they're to overtake the Kansas City Chiefs or stay ahead of the Baltimore Ravens, referencing a situation the Oakland Raiders found themselves in back in the 1970's. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics including a conversation on if MVP Josh Allen hides too many other flaws on this team and how good this roster is compared to other contenders once quarterbacks are removed from the equation. The Bills have been perennial contenders every year since 2019 and Allen's growth has been remarkable to watch, culminating with him winning the NFL MVP this past season. Sports journalist Tyler Dunne recently had a podcast with guest Jim Monos and Monos suggested, strongly that the play of Allen covers up an otherwise pretty flawed Bills roster, even suggesting the Bills woudn't be a playoff team if Jalen Hurts was their quarterback. Patrick and Joe debate how good the Bills are after you remove Allen from the equation compared to non-QB rosters of some other contenders. The answer may surprise you. Also, James Cook is making it known what he's seeking in a new contract from the Buffalo Bills and this offseason and possibly beyond has the potential to get quite tumultuous between the two. Patrick and Joe have thoughts on Cook and if he deserves what he's asking for and look back at some former Bills who made their contract demands public and how that played out. Bills strength and conditioning coach Eric Ciano was fired last week after being with the team since 2013. The guys have thoughts on why that happened. That plus the Mt.
