Are there different types of Spanish? How different?
Today I've got for you José Baig @JoseBaig; who has lived and worked in 10 countries; from Uruguay to Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, the United States, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, Bolivia and currently in The Netherlands --at least as of this recording.
Someone who’s been international correspondent for the BBC, among a quite impressive list of world class news outlets and institutions. A journalist with a master’s in Latin American Studies; author and creator of La Cocinita de Papá; Dad’s Little Kitchen.
The conversation went into so many interesting places that I had to divide it in three parts.
This is part 1 where we talk about different types of Spanish; but we also go into history and compare English versus Spanish as the language of the conquerors from Europe; and talk about the five different ways of saying “You” in Spanish, which did not end up being super clear, so I’ll talk about it at the end of the episode.
¡Vamos!
Spanish We Do is hosted by José Erre and it's a production of SpanishWeDo.com; a translation and localization team for text, subtitles and voice-over from English into Spanish and Spanish into English.
