This week, in what might be the funniest episode yet, Molly and Emese are joined by co-stars Amy Schumer and Brianne Howey. They get candid about motherhood, career evolution, and their new film, Kinda Pregnant —which unexpectedly led to Amy’s latest health discovery. Amy opens up about how public criticism led her to uncover her Cushing syndrome diagnosis, what it’s like to navigate comedy and Hollywood as a mom, and the importance of sharing birth stories without shame. Brianne shares how becoming a mother has shifted her perspective on work, how Ginny & Georgia ’s Georgia Miller compares to real-life parenting, and the power of female friendships in the industry. We also go behind the scenes of their new Netflix film, Kinda Pregnant —how Molly first got the script, why Amy and Brianne were drawn to the project, and what it means for women today. Plus, they reflect on their early career struggles, the moment they knew they “made it,” and how motherhood has reshaped their ambitions. From career highs to personal challenges, this episode is raw, funny, and packed with insights. **SOUL UNLIMITED Radioshow 621** A Contemporary Jazz Update: It’s time again to focus on the latest developments in the contemporary jazz scene. Especially in the field of alternative and experimental jazz a lot is happening. The album of the week comes from the Munich band Fazer, who have established themselves in this field with very good and highly interesting albums in recent years. I think their latest work „Yamaha“ is again extremely good and contains everything I like about this band. With humorous ease they combine jazz and rock elements to an exciting and subtle grooving unit. Great! I also find Liam Shortall’s approach with his project Corto.Alto very interesting. During the promotional campaign for his album „Bad With Names“, which will be released in 2023, he came up with 108 song ideas that he saved on his hard drive. In early 2024, he turned those ideas into 30 finished tracks that he recorded with some of his favorite musicians. The emphasis was on spontaneity, allowing the music to take shape naturally without the constraints of a perfect album. Each track is unique, emphasizing the raw and unfiltered approach to the project’s creation. The International Anthem label is known for its highly experimental and innovative releases, often crossing genres. The label is represented in this episode with some remarkable albums. After Anna Butters, it’s guitarist Jeff Parker’s turn with his ETA IVtet. The album „The Way Out Of Easy“ was created during the legendary sessions at the Enfield Tennis Academy (ETA). Four long tracks that capture the magic of these sessions and make them accessible to a wider audience. A wonderful album! On their debut album „Outerstate“, the duo Kessoncoda produce a remarkable sound that has a strong cinematic feel to it. If you like the music of GoGo Penguin or the Portico Quartet, you should listen to this remarkable album. The recordings for Jessica Lauren’s album „Film“ were made in 1997 and released on CD in 1999. Only now is there a vinyl release of this album. It is remarkable how contemporary and fresh these recordings still sound. Very beautiful! Meshell Ndegeocello’s new album was released in August. „No More Water: The Gospel Of James Baldwin“ is a musically compelling tribute to the legendary author James Baldwin, whose lyrics explored issues of identity, homosexuality, and inequality. The result is a profound, genre-bending album that uses Baldwin’s work as a basis for reflection on today. Essential. Also included are two interesting single releases by Resavoir and Fola Dada, which herald interesting albums to be released in 2025. Enjoy this episode! ***Playlist:*** Soul Unlimited – Radioshow Theme SML - Rubber Tree Dance Fazer - 1999 Fazer - Foam Corto.Alto - Dust Corto.Alto - Slide Anna Butterss - Dance Steve (feat. **SOUL UNLIMITED Radioshow 620** The musical journey of this episode begins with two soul classics by Oliver Sain and Harold Burrage, before moving straight on to the first album highlight, an album of songs by the band The Decisions, some of which have never been released before. The band formed in the 1960s at S.H. Archer High School in Atlanta, Georgia. They had some minor success with single releases on their own label York and on Sussex at the end of the 60s. The British label Soul Direction unearthed some unreleased recordings by the Decisions and released them for the first time on two 45 singles between 2021 and 2022. Now the label has released the album “Color Me Blue”. It contains three more never before released recordings by the Decisions, as well as the songs from the two singles released in 2021 and 2022 and some songs from the singles released on York and Sussex Records. An album of great music from the heyday of the classic soul sound that also presents the work of this remarkable band almost in its entirety. The Spanish label Soul 4 Real has also specialized in releasing previously unreleased songs on vinyl for the first time, mostly on 45 singles. In the meantime, they have also released some albums and the latest is the compilation “Asking For The Truth (But Praying For A Lie)”, which focuses on songs from the archives of the Malaco, Muscle Shoals Sound and Alarm Records labels and studios. There are also some previously unreleased songs here, all of which are excellent. This compilation is pure Southern Soul pleasure! Then it’s on to the latest soul: Emilia Sisco’s debut album on the Finnish label Timmion Records, which she recorded with Cold Diamond & Mink, the label’s house band. The renowned band has already worked successfully with numerous artists. Emilia Sisco takes the listener on a gentle journey through the world of vintage soul. Beautiful arrangements, paired with the ability to combine classic soul influences with contemporary flair, make the ten songs sound fresh and unique. The album of the week! After so much sweet soul, it’s time for a round of Hammond organ funk with drive. The debut album “In Green We Dream” by the trio Parlor Greens is just the thing for this. The three musicians are no strangers: Guitarist Jimmy James was active with the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio for a long time and is successful with his band True Loves. Organist Adam Scone became famous with the Sugarman Three and also has his own band, the Scone Cash Players. Drummer Tim Carman is well known from GA-20. No wonder the three of them clicked straight away. That sounds very good! Then it’s on to Latin funk and a compilation celebrating the work of Jimmy Salcedo Y Su Onda Tres. Jimmy Salcedo is best known for his work with the duo Elias Y Elisabeth and their hit “Alegria”. But the recordings with his own band are also worth listening to: tropical funk with Caribbean echoes and a touch of light psychedelia. The compilation “El Mundo De Jimmy Salcedo …) was released by Vampi Soul in 2022 and is highly recommended. The groundbreaking album “Som, Sangue e Raca” by Dom Salvador E Abolicao, which was released in 1971, has recently been reissued by Mad About Records. Dom Salvador develops an explosive mixture of samba, soul, jazz and funk with his band Abolicao. Definitely a highly recommended album! I have been eagerly awaiting the new compilation Straight From The Decks Vol.4, which Guts has put together with his usual knowledge and stylistic confidence. His focus is on Afro-Caribbean sounds and he keeps discovering amazing gems from the past, which he combines with current songs. This time, too, an exquisite listening experience, which is of course also danceable, as it is representative of Gut’s DJ sets. Then it continues with a round of Afro-Caribbean sounds, including new singles by Florence Adooni, VuVuVU, Santrofi and Kokoroko, who are at the start with the new EP “Get The Message”. **SOUL UNLIMITED Radioshow 619** A few new Soul 45s to kick things off and then comes the first album highlight: Marc Mac has reactivated his Visioneers project and is back with an excellent album. “Def Radio” focuses on the strengths of the Visioneers, which have inspired me since their first releases around 20 years ago. New interpretations of hip-hop and soul classics, as well as driving jazz & funk lounge tunes. The album is convincing across the board and is simply great! The team at Mocambo Records has released a strong compilation with previously unreleased tracks from the Peter Thomas Sound Orchestra. The first installment of the Tape Masters focuses on library music. The 25 tracks that Björn Wagner has selected for this compilation are all first class! The album of the week comes from Angels Of Libra, who have recorded “Astromantics”, a concept album full of retro-futuristic science fiction space sounds. The music is fabulous and I am completely thrilled! Incidentally, the album is only available in a vinyl version limited to 250 copies, which glows in the dark. There are also some AI-generated videos about the album on YouTube. After that, the music takes a different direction. The band Los Bitchos from London brings together four musicians from the UK, Australia, Sweden and South America. Accordingly, the band’s sound is a multi-layered blend of chicha, cumbia, Turkish psychedelic sounds, surf guitars and a bit of pop. Very charming and absolutely party-ready. On their new album “Talkie Talkie”, the four ladies are once again in top form. An album that is definitely fun! Guitarist Brian J Gitkin has released his new album “Golden Age” on Wonderwheel Records. The songs are all instrumental and he delves deep into the infinite expanses of cumbia, North African and Middle Eastern music, lending these traditions his own musical personality, which in turn is shaped by influences from the New Orleans music scene. A very interesting and varied album. The debut of the band La Lom with the album “The Los Angeles League Of Musicians” is also worth discovering. The three musicians have created music that fuses the “twang” of rockabilly with the sensuality of Latin American rhythms and it sounds wonderful! **SOUL UNLIMITED Radioshow 618** Welcome to a new foray into the musical realms of soul. From sweet soul and Brazilian music with soul appeal to psychedelic soul sounds and Balearic grooves, the program is varied and multi-layered. The first album showcase is “Small Changes” by Michael Kiwanuka. On his fourth album, he remains true to his folk-soul sound, which I really appreciate. It’s another excellent album that will be spinning on my record player a lot. I was eagerly awaiting Rogê’s album “Curyman II”. The collaboration with Thomas Brenneck, who produced the album again, and a number of other well-known musicians proved to be very fruitful. On “Curyman II”, Rogê’s sound has been subtly developed further and the album shines with ten great song jewels. A fabulous album! Then it’s on to another Brazilian musician: Sam Nobrega has released his promising debut album “Ponta De Dois Lados” on Freestyle Records. An album that you should definitely lend an ear to. With their album “Si, Cosi”, the London trio Les Hommes have released a pleasantly groovy album full of lounge exotica. The band caused a sensation over 20 years ago with their first albums on the Italian label Schema. In the meantime, band leader Rory More has founded his own label, Sudden Hunger Records. There was great anticipation for Theodor’s second album and “Holocene” even exceeded the high expectations. The band from Darmstadt has developed a very independent, sometimes slightly psychedelic soul sound, which they have deepened and expanded on their second album. The falsetto voices and the soulful timbre of the two singers underline this even more. I’m absolutely thrilled, it’s the album of the week! I’ve loved the Balearic grooves of Reuben Vaun Smith ever since his debut album. Now he has just released his fourth album “Land Of Music” digitally, a vinyl edition will be released in early 2025. The album is a collection of lively and atmospheric tracks that transport the listener into a tropical soundscape of chilled beats, lush synthesizers and relaxed vocal reveries. Very beautiful! The sound of the French-Turkish duo Kit Sebastian lives in the field of tension between the musical worlds of Western Europe and the Middle East. Their third album “New Internationale” is a captivating synthesis of these musical influences that make up the band’s unique sound. Wonderful! Enjoy listening to this episode! ***Tracklist:*** Soul Unlimited – Radioshow Theme Thee Sacred Souls - Price I’ll Pay Thee Heart Tones - Need Something More Emilia Sisco - Your Girl Thee Marloes - Logika Los Yesterdays - I Want You To Stay Michael Kiwanuka - Follow Your Dreams Michael Kiwanuka - Floating Parade Bruno Berle - Te Amar Eterno Roge - Rio De Janeiro A Janeiro Roge - Curyman Sam Nobrega - Ponta De Dois Lados Sam Nobrega - Surpreenda-Se Martin Buscaglia & Julieta Rada - Hablando De Roma Marcos Valle - Bora Meu Bem Momo. - Beija Flor Les Hommes - The Hip Heart Les Hommes - Night Drives Joel Sarakula - Loved Up Theodor - Your Love Theodor - Guadeloupe Butcher Brown - Montrose Forest (feat. **SOUL UNLIMITED Radioshow 617** In this episode, we go on another little musical journey around the world. To kick things off, there’s a short round of songs inspired by Latin American rhythms. The first release highlight I’d like to introduce to you is the latest Analog Africa compilation “Super Disco Pirata”, which is dedicated to the musical phenomenon of Mexican sonideros and pirata records. These bootlegs contained tracks manipulated and pitched down with equalizers, so-called rebajadas, which were optimized for the sonideros through this processing. The sonideros were sound engineers who dominated the Mexican dance party scene with their mobile sound systems. They mainly played music from Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. Pirato bootlegs became a key element of sonidero culture. The compilation “Super Disco Pirata” is an excellent addition to the compilation “Saturno 2000”, which was released in 2022 and was dedicated to sonidero culture and the rebajadas. Current music with references to Latin American sounds, including from Colombia, is provided by the French band project The Bongo Hop. This was initiated by Etienne Sevet, who lived in Colombia for a long time and has now settled in Lyon. On the new album “La Pata Coja”, the band’s Afro-jazz approach is even more pronounced than on previous albums. The songs have soul and are danceable. In addition to numerous guest appearances by well-known musicians, singer Nidia Gongora is also back. Overall, I think the album is very successful and, above all, very varied. I was eagerly awaiting the Hoodna Orchestra’s new album because they have teamed up with ethio-jazz legend Mulatu Astatke. His enchanting vibraphone playing and the wind-heavy power of the Hoodna Orchestra form a magnificent symbiosis. Neil Sugarman (Daptone Records) is also involved in this album and he produced the album together with guitarist Ilan Smilan. I think this album is fabulous and it is the Hoodna Orchestra’s best album to date. The duo Dar Disku brings completely new aspects to their music. The two DJ’s, producers and musicians were born in Bahrain and now live in London. Their multicultural influences, including their Arabic background, are channeled into their music. The interplay with electronic grooves creates interesting and danceable music. One song also features the legendary Indian singer Asha Putli. Very nice! The label Soundway Records has released the highly interesting compilation “Aye Ke Disco”. It presents music from the countries around the South China Sea that was created in the 1970s and 80s. The compilation was compiled by Alice Whittington, the label manager of Soundway Records for many years. She is also active as DJ Norsicaa and is known for the eclectic range of her DJ sets. She has an extensive collection of Asian records from which she has selected ten rare tracks with disco funk, psych funk, city pop and Hindustani-Arabic rhythms for “Aye Ke Disco”. A harmonious and highly interesting selection. Great! Finally, I would like to introduce you to the debut album by Joi N’Juno. The man behind this project is David Baluteau, who is best known as the founder and singer of the French band “La Phaze”. His new project takes him in a new musical direction and his debut album “Samemala” shines with great and extremely danceable songs that combine Afro-Caribbean vibes with strong house beats. It sounds great and is great fun! Have fun listening to this episode! ***Tracklist:*** Soul Unlimited – Radioshow Theme Rio 18 - Casa Loco Elia Y Elizabeth - Alegria Orchesta Jose Ramon Herrera - Cumbia Sabanera Los Pakines - Venus Afrosound - Platico Chino Eduardo Zurita - La 3a De Los Toquecitos Menahan Street Band feat. **SOUL UNLIMITED Radioshow 616** A light pinch of soul in your ears never hurts … We start with the wonderful 7″ EP series “From Detroit With Love” and the two recently released episodes 5 and 6, which once again present us with previously unreleased soul gems on vinyl. As always, the best quality and these two episodes also completely delight 60s soul fans like me. Then we continue with the compilation “This Is Mod”, which was compiled by Dean Rudland for BGP Records and features the soul side of mod culture. Souljazz Records also has a new compilation in the program, the second in the Miami Sound series with soul, funk, disco and boogie from the years 1968 to 1974. The soul scene in Miami was shaped by Henry Stone’s TK Records and its numerous sub-labels such as Alston, Cat, Glades and Dash. From this rich repertoire, Stuart Baker has put together a nice selection for Soul Jazz Records, which I again find very successful. The first album with new music comes from Kelly Finnigan. The singer and keyboardist of the Monophonics has released his third solo album “A Lover Was Born”, which offers an exquisite soul sound. Kelly Finnigan has created an album that is both in the tradition of legendary Midwest soul labels and transfers this into a timeless soul sound that is clearly anchored in the present day. A fabulous, really great album and therefore the record of the week! The Golden Rules label has been active in Leibzig for a number of years and has launched “The Originals”, a compilation series featuring current soul and funk productions from Germany, Europe and beyond. The focus here is on little-known but very interesting bands and artists. The fourth installment has recently been released and, as always, there are exciting things to discover. Trumpeter Dave Guy may be familiar to fans of the Dap-Kings. But he has also played in numerous other bands. Now he has released his first solo album “Ruby”. Very nice, predominantly instrumental and relaxed grooving sounds! From Darmstadt comes the band Theodor, which I only recently discovered. Their self-titled debut album was released at the end of February 2023 and has already been repressed several times. The band has developed a very unique and modern soul sound that gains in charm with every listen. So it’s high time to present this wonderful album. The band’s new album has already been announced for the end of November. I’m really looking forward to it. Joel Sarakula’s music could be categorized as soulful pop or yacht rock. His new album “Soft Focus” shows that Joel Sarakula has a knack for wonderfully relaxed grooving songs that mix timeless soul, funk, soft rock and pop. A little over a year ago, Ziggy Zeitgeist, Lewis Moody and Federico Gallotti met in Naples to produce an album as Ex Generation that pays homage to the musical spirit of this city and also builds a bridge to the European crossover club music scene. They have succeeded in doing this brilliantly, as you can hear on the album “The Napoli Exchange” released in June of this year. Great! Finally, there’s something new from the Baker Brothers, a UK funk band that has been active for over 20 years. With their new album “The Next Last Party”, they present themselves with a fresh sound that puts you in a good mood. **SOUL UNLIMITED Radioshow 615** The focus of this episode is the musical legacy of Quincy Jones, who died on November 3, 2024 at the age of 91. We look back at a small selection of his music, be it releases under his name, production work for other artists or soundtracks for films and TV series. He not only produced the best-selling album of all time (Thriller by Michael Jackson), but also much more … There are also some very interesting new albums to present. For example, the new album by trumpeter Sefi Zisling: “The Librarian” features very pleasantly relaxed jazz sounds that are easily accessible despite their complex composition and playing style. Wonderful! Keyboarder and pianist Finn Rees has also produced a remarkable album with “Dawn Is A Melody”. Multi-layered compositions with some very beautiful string arrangements that grow with every listen. The flautist Ludivine Issambourg is at the start with her brand new album “Above The Laws”, the album title alludes to the flautist Hubert Laws, to whom she has already dedicated an album and who is a source of inspiration for Ludivine Issambourg. There are remarkable guest appearances on some songs by legendary musicians such as Brian Jackson and the currently very successful solo singer Wolfgang Valbrun. All in all, an excellent album! When it comes to Latin funk, the name Bobby Marin comes up again and again. He was also active as a solo artist, but even more so as a producer for other artists. The Spanish label Vampi Soul has now released “We’ve Got A Groovy Thing Going”, a first-class compilation dedicated to all aspects of Bobby Marin’s work. Highly recommended! The exquisite event series “We’ll Jazz You” starts its 4th edition on November 16 at the Schlachthaus in Tübingen. The concept of “We’ll Jazz You” is simple and very good: it is a harmonious combination of concert and DJ set. This time it’s a Latin edition: the band Fauzia Maria Beg’s Funky Latin Experience will be playing and Emanuela De Luca will be spinning the right music before, between and after the band’s live sets. The party starts at 8 pm and the band will play from 9 pm. I’m really looking forward to it!
