The Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences (LML) and the Centre for Public Law (CPL) hosted Saimo Chahal to deliver a lecture on 7 March 2017.
Saimo Chahal is a leading figure in public law, human rights and international law. She has acted as the solicitor in the leading assisted suicide cases of R (Jane Nicklinson and Paul Lamb) v The Ministry of Justice & the DPP & The Attorney General UKSC [2013] and R (Debbie Purdy) v The Director of Public Prosecutions (2009). Further legal challenges to the law prohibiting assisted suicide are imminent and will be heard in the courts this year.
Saimo Chahal:
- She is listed in the Thompson Reuter’s Top 100 Super lawyers List
- In January 2016, Black Lawyers Directory (BLD) first ever “Movers and Shakers” list of the most influential and powerful black lawyers;
- In April 2014, Ms Chahal was awarded the tile of Honorary QC in recognition of her major contribution to the development of the law of England and Wales. The title has only been awarded to about 115 solicitors in total at that date.
