God Killed My Old Man | Episode 7 | Servants
Manage episode 445414712 series 3547119
In the seventh episode of "God Killed My Old Man," Duane Sheriff teaches about the profound shift in our spiritual allegiance from being servants of sin to servants of righteousness. Understanding this change is crucial for living a victorious Christian life. Romans 6:18 states, "Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness." This transition is a result of God's work in killing our old sinful nature and giving us a new nature in Christ.
Romans 6:20 contrasts our old and new nature: "When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness." Being a servant of sin meant that even our good deeds couldn't change our sinful nature or earn salvation. Similarly, being servants of righteousness means that our occasional failings don't negate our righteous identity in Christ.
As servants of righteousness, we're not striving for holiness through our efforts. Instead, holiness becomes a natural fruit of our new nature in Christ. Hebrews 8:12 illustrates God's merciful attitude towards us under the New Covenant: "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."
As servants of righteousness, we're free to approach God boldly, even when we stumble, because our identity is secure in Christ. This new relationship empowers us to overcome sin and live out our righteous nature.
