Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, for January 1st.
Happy New Year.
Can you believe it is 2025!
It’s the start of a brand-new year and a brand-new month. January sets the stage for fresh beginnings, and January is National Mentoring Month—a reminder of how guidance and support can help us grow.
And as we look at the holidays today, there’s plenty to talk about.
Not only is is today New Years Day... but there are so many other great holidays to choose from today..
First, it’s National Hangover Day—no explanation needed, right? I hope your hydrating today because that party last night was.... Enough said.
Second, we have Polar Bear Plunge Day. I haven't done this one in a while and even though I love the shock of a good cold plunge I'll be staying warm and dry today.
It’s also International Public Domain Day, when creative works are released into the public domain, giving us all free access to new treasures.
But the most fitting holiday for today? National Commitment Day. It’s the perfect match for New Year’s Day—a moment when many of us take stock of our lives and decide what we’re ready to dedicate ourselves to in the year ahead. That leads us to today’s quote from Kenneth Blanchard:
Kenneth Blanchard is a renowned leadership expert, management consultant, and co-author of the bestselling book The One Minute Manger.
He once said...
"There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results."
This quote doesn’t pull any punches, does it? It’s a reminder that the gap between dreaming and achieving is often filled with commitment. When you’re just interested, your actions are driven by convenience.
But when you’re committed, you’ll move mountains to make it happen.
Think about your own goals for the year. What’s something you’ve been interested in but haven’t fully committed to yet? Whether it’s starting a new habit, chasing a big dream, or simply being more present in your daily life, the difference lies in your mindset.
Are you ready to stop making excuses and start chasing results? And here’s the thing: commitment doesn’t mean perfection. It means showing up consistently, even when it’s tough, inconvenient, or downright messy. It’s not about never falling—it’s about getting back up every single time you do. So, as you sip your coffee, recover from last night’s celebrations, and avoid the freezing water like me this year, take a moment to reflect.
What will you commit to in 2024? Because today isn’t just about making resolutions. It’s about deciding what matters most to you and following through—no matter what.
That’s all for today’s episode of The Daily Quote.
I'd like to thank the 4 people who gave the Daily Quote a 5 Star rating on Spotify last year. And thanks to the 2 of you that gave the show 5 Stars on Apple Podcasts. And thanks again to Colin Creavey, for the awesome written review on Apple Podcasts.
I was looking over this shows Analytics and I saw which Quotes were the most popular on Spotify and Apple and which one had the most downloads overall. I might do a bonus episode where I do 2024 year in review this week... it will get done for sure if I decide to commit to doing it.
Hope you had a great holiday season and I wish you the best for 2025!
I'm Andrew McGivern signing off for now.
But I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station for another Daily Quote.
Have fun storming the New Year!
