When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Choosing powerful chemistry over true connection will lead us to pick unhealthy relationships which inhibits our best life. Push away from toxic attachments and remember what are your core beliefs when it comes to a relationship, this might be kindness, safety or trust. Partner selection should be through core belief.
Emotional numbing occurs when you go through a form of emotional trauma such as past toxic relationships which can limit your empathy levels and emotional range. This can be described as survival mode and can narrow our emotions - to over come this you should engage your emotions in a safe space.
Rejection from an early care giver can result in you picking unhealthy partner in later life. The values you pick in unhealthy partners is your way of trying to conquer rejection.
Your authentic self will lead to your best life. Try to engage with your own emotions and truly understand what it is you want from a relationship.
No matter what you are going through, no mater what struggle, if anyone can get through it, you can.

[59.32] Dr Rosh discusses the different attachment styles [1.05.39] Attachment styles: Anxiety attachment - This attachment style displays someone who is fearful of rejection and abandonment. This leads them to remain in unhealthy relationships despite the red flags shown. This can also lead you to put the needs of others before your own in your relationship, often leading to high anxiety. Secure attachment - This attachment style is portrayed in healthy relationships. There is often good communication and allows each person to appreciate their own self worth and ability to be themselves in their relationship. Dismissive avoidant attachment - A person with a dismissive avoidant attachment style often cannot form supportive relationships as they feel that seeking support makes them weak. This often causes them to blow hot and cold, with a history of numerous but short relationships. Fearful-avoidant or disorganised attachment - This is where although a strong interpersonal bond is desired, the person also wants to protect themselves from rejection. This often leads to avoiding true relationships if the connection begins to grow. In this episode, I talk with Madison Sarah, who is one of the top models in the UK and has a YouTube channel with a follower count of over 300,000. During our conversation, we chat about Madison’s unique upbringing as a Jehovah’s witness, and how religion still plays a central role in her life, though now it’s on her own terms. [2.06] Madison is open and honest when we talk about how social media has impacted her life and exposed her to the harsh realities of life that she was protected from in her youth. [08.11] She shares how a few years ago through the pressures and negativity of social media, she felt disconnected from herself and found herself in a cycle of focusing on her perceived flaws and her outer self. [13.21] Through journaling, and shining a light on her inner self, Madison has managed to cope with these pressures and change her way of thinking. [22.06] Her key piece of advice is to not let the judgments of others cloud your own. Only you know yourself. [28.15] I’m grateful to Madison for being so open and honest during our conversation. We all suffer from negative thoughts and often feel that we’re alone in this thinking. I want to share some negative thoughts so that when they come up you can call them out: Toxic focus on a small thing or on a perceived flaw False beliefs. Looking at our bodies and judging what we see, creates these false beliefs. These intrusive thoughts can then dominate our thinking and can lead to negative actions. We need to be mindful of these and not suffer in secret. If this happens, we need to be able to acknowledge and move forward. We can do this by: Reframe what’s going on. Understand the negative thought patterns. How do we acknowledge and move on to positivity? Refocus our attention – for example, are you using social media to look at images of people that are most likely edited and being hard on yourself? Take some time away from social media to refocus on the positive. Reorder or realign. Look at potentially getting help through your GP or Psychologist. 1/2% of the population suffers from Body Dysmorphia in the UK. You are not alone, there’s lots of help out there.
