I met Akinjide Onifade playing club soccer in college, when he was studying pre-med and working as a scribe in local hospitals. Now he is currently a 4th year medical student at UT Southwestern. I think everyone has people in their life that they naturally want to be around. They’re the ones who others want to listen to and honestly care about what they have to say. Akinjide is, hands down, one of those guys. I just naturally respect what he has to say. And this conversation was an opportunity for me to explore a bit more about where he comes from. We talk about his experience immigrating from Nigeria at 13 years old, the similarities and differences between the cultures, some fun and wild stories from his time back in Nigeria, and about the values he has found important because of his journey and history. I always welcome the times I get to spend listening to Akinjide and I know you’ll appreciate his story and perspective as well. Enjoy.
