This week we welcome back Josh Ruben! We had him on waaaay back in 2021 to discuss Werewolves Within and The Flight of the Navigator (go listen! It's episode 90!). Back then we dug more into his horror history as well, so we don't cover that here... so go take a listen to that one ! Here, we talk about his latest film Heart Eyes! We chat about the mask, merging horror and romantic comedy, working with a stacked cast, the gore and so much more. Then we go back to our childhoods to find out why Jaws 3D terrified him growing up. Lackadaisical, slow-moving sharks, murky waters, fantastic set pieces, production histories...we cover a lot! You can follow Josh on Instagram or Bluesky . This week we're so excited to chat with writer and director Drew Hancock about his fantastic and twisty horror film Companion. Spoiler alert: we talk about the first big reveal of the film so we're going to include time stamps below. We chat about working with the fantastic cast, the impetus for writing the film, the way everything came together and more before digging into Drew's horror history. We talk about how he got into horror and more before finding out why The Shining terrified him as a kid...and true to the twisty Companion, there's not one but two third act twists in this story. Find out exactly why this was his pick and for those who listened to the first time we covered the show (waaay back on Episode 27)...hold onto your butts... Spoiler time stamps: If you've seen the trailer and marketing, you don't have to skip anything. 5:30 - 8:00 16:30-23:00 At 23:00 we stop talking about Companion and focus on his horror history. So if you don't want anything spoiled, you're free after that. But again, if you've seen the marketing and if you've seen the trailer...that's all we spoil. This is coming from Terry who went in knowing nothing about the film and was blown away by the first reveal. So if you are like me and know nothing about the film...just please go see it and walk in as blind as you can. But if you've seen the trailer/marketing, know that that's all we spoil. Follow Mary Beth , Terry and the Podcast on Twitter. We also have a Letterboxd HQ account , so follow us there, too! We’re also on Bluesky with the same usernames. Support us on Patreon ! Sorry for the re-up...but some of the apps are still not pulling the updated track, no matter what I did to the original track. So we're re-loading the episode as its own separate thing and deleting the old one. It's a little later than we wanted, but 2024 doesn't end until we say it does! This week we're releasing our annual Best of the Year! We talk about some of our favorite moments in horror from the year, reminisce on a couple of our favorite episodes, discuss a couple non-film horror things, talk about the ones that just didn't make the top 10. And then we count down our favorites. Will Terry cry? Will Misu make her appearance and terrify us both...you'll have to listen to find out. Also excuse the audio...we had a couple instances where the audio picked up ambient noise and it was impossible to get rid of. If you enjoyed what we did in 2024, please leave us a review on your podcast app of choice. It really helps us out. Follow Mary Beth , Terry and the Podcast on Twitter.
