The Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, on Queensland's Gold Coast, is seeing a surge in animals needing care, especially lorikeets and flying foxes which are being left paralysed by an unusual syndrome.

Just last month, the hospital treated more than 1200 birds alone - and it's putting a huge strain on the hospital's resources.
