During World War II, while millions cowered under Nazi rule, Bartali, among others, stood up to Hitler and Mussolini. Like Oskar Schindler, Bartali saved hundreds of Jews by stashing fake papers in his bicycle and ferrying them around the country. A superstar in his home country at a perilous moment in history, Bartali hid in plain sight to help those who needed it most.
