The message of Ephesians 2:1-10 is this: The believer who has done nothing to receive grace must now do everything for the Savior who gave it.In Ephesians 2:1-10 we see man's plight (vv1-3), but God's power to save men (vv4-9), and then God's purpose for the men He saves (v10)."God did not save us to show us off. He saved us that He might show off His Son. God saved us for the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."…
Like the despair of the Sixth Seal, the death and despair of the Sixth Trumpet could cause discouragement in John and his readers (and us). So in both the Seals and the Trumpets, God graciously gives an interlude before the Seventh and final judgment, to comfort and assure the Christian in time of tribulation, and to encourage and exhort the Church to go forth with the Gospel at the same time.In the first of two parts of the Trumpets' interlude, John (and we) is given confidence in Christ and a re-commission to be His servant and mouthpiece. So should we.I. InterludeII. Confidence (Mighty Angel of vv1-7)---A. Sovereignty of Christ and Judgment (vv1-3)---B. Certainty of Christ and Judgment (vv4-7)---C. The fifth and sixth trumpets intensify the judgment against the wicked who rebel against God and persecute His Church. And they pull back the curtain to reveal the demonic forces--under Christ's control--used to torment the world. Understanding these trumpet judgments is necessary to understand the decline and insanity of our society.Rev 9 – Demonic Judgment Released w/o RepentanceI. With Revelation 8 we transition from the Seven Seals to the Seven Trumpets--the third cycle of seven of the book.Whereas the Seals focused on the security of the sealed ones, the Trumpets are warning blasts of judgment to come upon the wicked--the ones who persecuted the seals. And the trumpets of Jericho and the plagues against Egypt are keys to understanding the Seven Trumpets.Revelation 8 – The Sounding of the Seven TrumpetsI. Previously (Rev 1-8:6)—Sevens and SevensII. Prayer (Rev 8:1-6)—Sovereignty and SupplicationIII. Progression (Rev 8:2,6)—Seals to Trumpets ---A. Similarities---B. SymbolismIV. God's command to Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac may seem cruel and contradictory, but the account in Genesis 22 is truly a beautiful story because of how it is meant to describe and display the sacrifice of Christ for undeserving sinners.I. Abraham's Faith (vv1-10)---A. Why would God command this? (Show Christ & Test Abraham's Faith)---B. What was Abraham's reaction? (vv2-4)---C. How could Abraham obey? (vv5-10)------1. In 1 John 3:1-3 are three focus points for our lives to help ground ourselves in time of trouble and discontent. If we keep our eyes on these three focal points then we will be better helped to stay on the path and avoid the pitfalls of this life, and to finish well in being faithful to the end.1 John 3:1-3 – "Look!"I. Revelation 8:3-5's picture of the saints' prayers mixed with incense by the angels before ascending before God, and then being joined with the fire from the altar and cast down to the earth is a wonderful encouragement to the Christian about the power and privilege of prayer. The prayers of all the saints (6:10), though imperfect, are mixed with incense (intercession), presented to God, and He uses them to carry out His decrees. In ways that we do not understand, God uses the prayers of saints to carry out eternal decrees. "Our prayers may make little impact to those who hear them in this world, but when they reach heaven, they are sent back, in George Herbert's phrase, as 'reversed thunder.' The power of prayer is truly immense!"—Derek ThomasThis passage is taught and discussed in a relatively brief study hour session and in preparation for Don Whitney's visit to teach on the motive for and a method of prayer. The session also discusses the importance of the daily reading of the whole Scriptures, and done interactively and prayerfully.…

00:00 Sermon44:15 Testimonies56:10 BaptismThis sermon uses Revelation 7:16-17, in context, as a springboard to teach on the rich symbolism of water, rivers, or fountains representing salvation, eternal life, and the life of the Spirit through Christ. It was meant as a meditation in preparation for testimonies, a baptism, and the Lord's Supper in the worship service. Along the way it walks through James M. Boice's hymn "Come to the Waters" and ends with an explanation of Jesus' call to drink of His blood and eat of His flesh to never be thirsty or hungry again.…

The Paradise of Eden in Genesis 2-3 was "lost" and ruined due to Adam's sin. But the plan of sovereign God was always to, through the promised Seed/Deliverer of Gen 3, restore that Paradise above and beyond the original. So it is no surprise that the description of this promised Paradise Restored of Rev 21-22 uses the same imagery as Gen 2-3.This sermon eventually focuses on Revelation 22:1-5 to see six things in the Paradise restored connected to and in fulfillment of the orginal Paradise of Eden. These promises should greatly encourage the Christian to not grow weary and to serve now in great joy.Intro: From Genesis through RevelationI. River of Life (Rev 22:1)II. Tree of Life (Rev 22:2)III.
