Everyone suffers.
We all suffer in big and small ways.
The book of Lamentations is a beautiful collection of five poems of lament. Like most poetry, these poems are meant help people hold and embody the poet’s indented emotions in a memorable and meaningful way. The poems give the people of God words to speak, sing, pray, and hold onto in times of suffering.
These laments do not respond to suffering in a hopeless manner. They embrace the pain and do so with hope.
As you prepare for Sunday, read Lamentations 3:19-24 slowly. Consider how you can embrace the pain of suffering and do so with hope that is located in God and his covenantal promises.
