Design Thinking is all the buzz when it comes to designing our products (or more appropriately, the solutions we discover to solve real problems). But does it stop there? Our guest on the episode makes a very convincing case for what he calls Experience Thinking.
On this episode, Matt and Moshe met with Tedde van Gelderen, President of Akendi, a premier UX agency specializing in creating holistic, end-to-end experiences that enhance their clients’ products and delight users. Tedde authored the book “Experience Thinking: Creating Connected Experiences”, in which he explains the importance of going beyond just product design or service design, and focusing on the holistic approach of experience design.
In his own words, “Experience Thinking" starts with the holistic experience customers and users have with an organisation over time, then guides the enabling technologies and content to create intentional experiences. Experience Thinking should become deeply rooted in an organisation's creation processes.”Join us as we explore with Tedde:

We are excited to bring to the podcast a startup that is building an exciting Data and AI product that can change how product managers and other executives are finding insights in the vast datasets they have access to. In this episode, we met with Mo Hallaba, founder and CEO of Datawisp. With extensive background in data and analytics, Mo experienced first hand the complexity it takes for employees of all levels in understanding the data they have, and in using the mostly technical tools that usually require data scientists, and long queues and time, to provide any useful insights. With that in mind, Mo created Datawisp, to bring the data - and more importantly, the insights from the data - directly to the people who need it. Using Natural Language Processing (NLP), Datawisp’s users can ask Wispy, its AI agent, for questions on things that are interesting to them, and Wispy then brings the data and the insights it learns from the data. Join Matt and Moshe as we chat with Mo and learn: - Mo’s background in financial analytics and his past entrepreneurship journey - How AI opened up the options for people to think about how to solve the data problem - Datawisp’s vision for how different teams in the organization can use it - The current focus on Product Managers and Marketing - Some of the feature of Datawisp, such as: - Users talk to it in the same way they would talk to a data scientist - If it doesn’t understand the question it prompts for more info - The freedom it has to manipulate the data like a data scientist would - Automatically picks a type of chart based on the question it was asked - Different people asking the same question at the same time, would get the same answer - How it handles security and privacy for its users - Customizable dashboards for users for questions they want to ask on regular basis - What needs to happen in an organization that adopts Datawisp - What is the biggest barrier for people that want to be great in their jobs - Will AI replace data scientists? - And much more! * You can connect with Mo at: - LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mo... / - X: @ElectronicMo - email: mailto:mo@datawisp.io - Datawisp: https://www.datawisp.io / You can find the podcast’s page, and connect with Matt and Moshe on Linkedin: - http://linkedin.com/company/pr... linkedin.com/company/product-for-product-podcast - https://www.linkedin.com/in/ma... - linkedin.com/in/mattgreenanalytics/ - http://www.linkedin.com/in/mik... - linkedin.com/in/mikanovsky/ Note: any views mentioned in the podcast are the sole views of our hosts and guests, and do not represent the products mentioned in any way. Time just flies! It feels like yesterday we wrapped 2023, and we are already at that time of the year again, with a 2024 warp-up! 2024 was a bit different than previous years, as we had only one themed series, and the rest of the episodes were a one-off, covering a variety of topics. And, early in the year, we also celebrated the 100th episode, in a live 2-hours show, that introduced many of the guest from the previous 3 years of podcasting. In our themed series we covered Session Replay products. This seris was very informtive and can prove to be a valuable tool for product managers. We continued this year covering great books for product people, and several frameworks and mindsets. Some of our guests shared with us methods to craft our products’ story, naming our products, and what goes into making decisions. Product Coaching grew steadily this year and was the topic of several episodes. We learned what it takes to be a product professional to build IoT products, and we caught up on the state of Product Analytics products. And of course, we couldn’t ignore AI and GenAI and how they help us - or the potential they can have in helping us. Finally, we introduce a startup product that help product people in a unique way. We would like to thank each and every guest that came on the show! We couldn’t have done it without you: Tovit Neizer, Orly Zeewy, Gil Broza, Jakie Flake, Marty Cagan, Eva Hongyan Gao, Yelena Liman, Oz Nazilli, Dave Martin, Henry Latham, Ricardo Vital, David Pereira, Dennis Chow, Anat Eldar, Vincent Pavero, Mandar Karlekar, John Fontenot, Zach Phillips, Nikki Zavadska, Christoph Steinlehner, Assaph Mehr, Phil Hornby, Aakash Gupta and Tedde van Gelderen. We can’t wait to continue this journey next year! We have some great episodes planned, and looking forward to learning and sharing more in the Product for Product Podcast! Happy New Year everyone! Some product managers don’t realize how many decisions we have to make daily in our jobs. And some of us decided to become product managers because we have to make decisions…But how do we make decisions? And what are the right decisions to make? Well… it depends… In this episode we explored these questions with Phil Hornby, Founder and Product Leadership Coach at for product people, and Co-creator and Co-host of the Talking Roadmaps podcast. Phil is in the process of writing his book “It Depends?”, on how decisions are made, and more specifically, when building products, and by product professional. Product Management is not about frameworks. Yes, using some frameworks that fit well in your situation can save us a lot of time by organizing our thoughts and allowing us to collaborate better. And before there were frameworks, there were mindsets. In this episode we are talking about a couple of mindset that help product managers and anyone who is building products to align better with the chaotic nature of our work. Our guest on the show is Assaph Mehr, a product and people leader. He is currently a Senior Product Manager of AI at Squiz, a Product Management Advisor & Mentor at My Mentor Path, a thought provoking blogger, and an author (or several ward-winning stories of Togas, Daggers, and Magic series - for lovers of Dark Urban-Fantasy Detectives and Ancient Rome!). On the episode, Assaph shared with us two of those mindsets - VUCA and Cynefin, and how they relate to our jobs as product people. Join Matt and Moshe as they explore with Assaph: How he got to product management His experience building AI products, and some of the challenges they raise What are these two mindsets all about (and how to pronounce Cynefin!) How to understand, and harness Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA) The balance between all of these, and how each of our domains can have a different mix Is it possible to quantify things like uncertainty or complexity? How he defines strategy The 5 domains of Cynefin, and the importance of fitting our problem to the right domain Can Product Managers impact their orgs to think in these ways? Can product job seekers test organizational fit by probing to see if they have the right mindset? Have you ever seen those pictures of a group of people with sticky notes around a whiteboard, working their way through a tough problem and coming with some innovative solutions? Did you feel they know something you don’t, and their work seems so much fun, while yours is not as creative? Well, it’s not as hard as it looks and you can do it too! But it’s always good to have a structure for the madness. And we got one for you in this episode! Featuring Christoph Steinlehner, Product Coach and Consultant, creator of the MAPPER Method (who started his career as a designer), Matt and Moshe sat down to learn from him how using visual methods and tools can help identifying gaps, aligning teams to the same mental model, and creating some innovation magic! In this episode, Matt and Moshe met to wrap up the Session Replay Tools series, and share what they learned after discussing several products. In the series we learned about PostHog from Vincent Pavero, FullStory from Mandar Karlekar, HotJar from John Fontenot, and LogRocket from Zach Phillips and Nikki Zavadska. As we usually do in the summary episode, we looked back at our learning throughout the series, and sure there were many! Reflecting back on past product serieses we had, some of the themes came back also in this one, such as choosing a product that goes deep into one area and does if very well, verses choosing a product that does many different things and has a wide array of features, all integrated with each other, but might not go as deep into some of them. It is interesting to see how companies have either started in Session Replay and added other capabilities over time, and others that started in other areas such as Product Analytics, and added Session Replay more lately. Join us on the episode as we further discuss: Use cases throughout the organization Technology used to record the sessions Insights from many sessions rather than one at a time Choosing the right one for you based on your needs How security is handled and the importance of having several approaches to it The emerging trends in AI and these products And much more! Thank you to our guests in this series for sharing with us their experiences! We continue our Session Replay series with the next product, LogRocket. To learn all about it, we had the pleasure to speak with two guests - Zach Phillips, Senior Product Analyst, and Nikki Zavadska, Lead Product Manager Growth, both at Appfire. Their perspectives were complimentary so we decide, why not? Let’s talk with both! Zach is essentially in the product operations area of Appfire, and his team helps implementing LogRocket for the other teams that build products. Nikki is a growth product manager working on one of these teams, so she has first hand experience with some interesting use cases. As a company that build many apps that are sold on 3rd party app store, such as Atlassian and Salesforce, Appfire needed flexibility and control in their session replay platform that they were able to find with LogRocket. It is always interesting for us to learn new use cases and have aha moments on the show, and this one came to us when Nikki shared an interesting case, where she couldn’t have find the cause for rage clicks without the usage of the session replay tool. Join us as we explore LogRocket with Zack and Nikki: Why they chose it over other products * How long it takes to implement * Use cases where they use session replay * The benefits of using LogRocket compared with other product analytics tools * How the engineers are using it too * How it handles security and compliance * Other features available in LogRocket and who uses them * Features they love and those that could be improved Using LogRocket to inform the direction of growth experiments * How to justify to the business to get the product * How many electric guitars does Zach own? * And so much more… To learn more about LogRocket: https://www.LogRocket.com * Connect with Zach: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/wz... * Connect with Nikki: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ni... We continue our Session Replay series with the next product, HotJar. To learn about it, we invited John Fontenot to return to the podcast. Last time we talked with John early on the podcast journey, on Episode 11, when we learned from him about Roadmunk, a Feedback & Roadmapping tool. Today we cover HotJar, one of the first session replay products we experienced in our product career. John is using it at two of the companies he founded, Path 2 Product and Repo. John loves HotJar’s free plan, which gives him insights into how the users are using his products, how many users are using specific features, where people get stuck, or where the product might have usability bugs. Join us as we explore HotJar with John: Use cases where he uses session replay Deep dive into security related concerns in session replay products How to approach users that we know have a problem, without making them feel like we are creeping on them Other features of HotJar, and integrations with other systems HotJar’s approach to freemium vs. premium versions, and features available in each When is it the right time to upgrade to a premium version Contemplating on session replay for physical products in physical stores What he likes and what he wishes can be improved with HotJar And so much more… To learn more about HotJar: https://www.hotjar.com/ Connect with John: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robfontenot/ Path 2 Product: https://path2product.io/ Repo: https://researchrepo.com/ Connect with Matt and Moshe on LinkedIn: Matt Green Moshe Mikanovsky Note: any views mentioned in the podcast are the sole views of our hosts and guests, and do not represent the products mentioned in any way. We continue our Session Replay series with the next product, FullStory. To learn about it, we invited Mandar Karlekar to return to the pod all the way from Australia. Last time we talked with Mandar in Episode 72, when we learned about Loom for async communication. Even back then we learned how much Mandar loves FullStory, so we were sure to invite him again to tell us all about it. FullStory started as a Session Replay platform, with a unique functionality - creating insights from multiple sessions. Mandar shared many reasons he likes the product, such as its simple and intuitive user experience, the fast time to value, how easy it is to implement, and how valuable it is to all business units. Join us as we explore FullStory with Mandar: Where he utilizes FullStory with his clients Many of the values created by using the platform such as: Enabling teams and orgs to intimately understand customers pain points and needs at scale Bundling up insights across the user journey Bringing teams together to realize the impact they built and where things should be improved The integrations available between FullStory and other platforms The value of getting analytics from session recordings which record everything, rather than by setting it up manually The AI powers that are included in the platform How FullStory handles security, personal information safety, and any specific security needs of clients Best features that he likes, and areas to improve Usage in B2C and B2B products What new clients of FullStory usually test to confirm it will not impact their product And so much more… To learn more about FullStory: https://www.fullstory.com/ Connect with Mandar: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mandarkarlekar/ Product Rocket: https://www.productrocket.com/ Connect with Matt and Moshe on LinkedIn: Matt Green Moshe Mikanovsky Note: any views mentioned in the podcast are the sole views of our hosts and guests, and do not represent the products mentioned in any way. The first product we cover in the Session Replay series is PostHog. To learn about it, we invited Vincent Pavero, Co-Founder, CEO at Homeric and Product Coach & Advisor at Vincent.pm. PostHog is the first open source product we are covering on the podcast, which is an interesting point in itself, and we wondered aloud on the show why there aren’t more open source products for product people. PostHog is not just a Session Replay platform, as it also supports product analytics, surveys, feature flags, A/B testing and more! Vincent loves it for this reason, as he has replaced 7 tools that he used previously by PostHog! We did focus our discussion on the show on Session Replay, and its strengths in PostHog. This includes the basic features: access and playback of user’s sessions, filter to find sessions, anonymous vs signed in users, skipping inactivity periods, overlay with features, heat map, rich-click detector, a band on the screen to show where they go lowest, sharing and exporting recordings, etc. Being geared mainly to product engineers, PostHog has additional features such as an inspector to see what happens in the browser (front end), and all the code that the browser is interacting with the back end. Join us as we explore with Vincent: How did he get to product Reasons to use a product like PostHog, and specifically session replay Product analytics that goes beyond session recordings The pros and cons of using an open source product in our sector Security measures for sensitive data Can AI create value in session replay? The importance of simplicity and consistency PostHog perspective on their role in helping users analyze their product data Areas that can be improved in PostHog Deep understanding by PostHog of their users, as evident in their website and all documentation materials And so much more… To learn more about PostHog: https://posthog.com/ Connect with Vincent: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vincentpavero/ Product coaching website: https://vincent.pm/ Homeric: https://homeric.ai Connect with Matt and Moshe on LinkedIn: Matt Green Moshe Mikanovsky Note: any views mentioned in the podcast are the sole views of our hosts and guests, and do not represent the products mentioned in any way. It has been awhile since we produced a series focused on one product category, as we had so much fun this year with individual guests who shared with us their love for frameworks, books they wrote, and other one-off topics. So we are excited to share a new series for our product management audience, exploring the world of Session Replay tools. In the kickoff episode, Matt and Moshe met to discuss what session replay products are, and what they are expecting to learn in this series, such as: What are the features of session replay tools? Who usually uses them? How did vendors start building them? What is the technology behind them? What might differentiate them? How does AI play a role in their progress? How do they play with other products in our ecosystem? How are results analyzed? What privacy and security concerns do they have to deal with? And more! The products we will discuss include HotJar, FullStory, PostHog, LogRocket and more.Connect with Matt and Moshe on LinkedIn: Matt Moshe Note: any views mentioned in the podcast are the sole views of our hosts and guests, and do not represent the products mentioned in any way. Is the MVP where we should stop at understanding whether we have a good direction to go with our product idea? Probably not. Join us to the latest episode, where Matt and Moshe have met with Anat Eldar, Product Leadership Consultant, as she goes through her Net Adoption Threshold (NAT) framework. Drawing from her extensive product management roles at companies such as Amdocs, Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo and Taboola, as well as from her teaching at the Reichman University, Anat had developed NAT to help product managers and organizations understand not only what the value they create, but also whether it is greater than the costs (both sunk and switching costs) and the current solution’s value. Join us as we learn from Anat: How did she get to product What is the Net Adoption Threshold (NAT) framework Who is it for and how they use it Does it fit all types of products and situations? Does it work well with other frameworks or does it replace them? The breakdown of the NAT formula: New Solution Value - (Sunk Costs + Switching Costs) > Current Solution Value How do we quantify each of these? What is the most important thing to quantify in this process? Some pitfalls when startups attempt to implement the NAT framework and how to avoid them How often should they assess the NAT if things are changing? How to start adopting NAT right away And much more!
