Arnold Eisen

Arnold Eisen, Chancellor Emeritus and Professor of Jewish Thought at the Jewish Theological Seminary, is one of the world’s leading experts on modern Judaism, with particular focus on America and Israel. During his 13-year term as Chancellor, he spearheaded curricula innovations that transformed the education of rabbis, cantors, educators and undergraduates, and introduced innovations such as the Center for Pastoral Education and the Hendel Center for Social Justice. Eisen is the author of numerous scholarly and popular books and articles on the subjects of modern Jewish thought and practice. Before coming to JTS he served on the faculties of Columbia, Tel Aviv and Stanford universities. He is currently teaching and researching the history of Zionist thought.
