Chester Safe Streets Initiative gets creative amid understaffed police department

• Bob Menendez will step down from the U.S. Senate, in the wake of his recent conviction on federal corruption charges. Gov. Phil Murphy on Tuesday announced on social media that he had received a letter of resignation from Menendez, informing him of the senator's intention to resign effective Aug. 20.

• The superintendent of the School District of Haverford Township, in a letter this week, told students’ families that she has just learned that a district teacher was arrested a couple of months ago having twice been accused of exposing himself and performing lewd acts in public.

• One of the nine victims shot during a West Philadelphia block party over the weekend has been identified as one of the shooters who started the gunfight, according to police.
• Police officials in Chester are getting creative in their attempts to get more officers out in the community this summer amid a police department staffing shortage. The mayor says the initiative frees up more officers for patrol duties in two primary ways.
