Unyime Akpan - February 18, 2024 - Luke 7: A “Chapter” in Jesus’ Life (5) John 3:6-7 (NLT) 6 Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. 7 So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ Jesus to Nicodemus Must of a Sinner Everybody is born a sinner Romans 3:23 A sinner must believe in Jesus Christ to have his/her sins forgiven and to have eternal life John 3:13-15 13 No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. Jesus to Nicodemus Must of the Saviour (Jesus Christ) Jesus must die on the cross (lifted up) This happened about 2,000 years ago Why? John 3:29-30 29 It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the bridegroom’s friend is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. 30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. John the Baptist to his disciples(followers) Must of a Saint (Believer) Jesus must become greater, a believer must become less Jesus must take first place in a believer's life Must of a Sinner A Sinner Must Believe in Jesus Christ to: Have His or Her Sins Forgiven Have Eternal Life Must of the Saviour Jesus Must Die on the Cross for Our Sins Must of a Saint (Believer) A Believer Must Let Jesus Take First Place (Be Number One) What made John the Baptist great? He Preached and Lived the “Must” of a Saint John 3:22-36 Jesus in John’s territory –Galilee to Judean countryside John’s Disciples Complained John’s Response Everything a person has is a gift from God -life, opportunities, talents, etc. I am not the Messiah I am filled with joy at Jesus’ success Jesus must become greater, I must become less Jesus Christ is Greater than all The Greatness of Jesus Christ Colossians 1 15 -19 -22 Ephesians 1 21 -23 A Sinner Must be Born Again Believe in Jesus Christ to have Your Sins Forgiven and Have Eternal Life A Saint (Believer) Must Make Jesus Greater How? Obedience to God’s Word (The Bible) John 13 12 -17 Philippians 3 3 -8 Must of a Sinner A Sinner Must Believe in Jesus Christ Must of a Saint (Believer) A Believer Must Let Jesus Take First Place Obedience to Gods Word, the Bible, is the Key John the Baptist is a Great Example to Us
