Transparency Is Coming To The Poultry Industry

Recently, the Biden administration passed a new rule to improve transparency within the poultry industry. This new rule in the Packers and Stockyards Act is set to take action on January 1st, 2026. It will allow producers to see information on other producers within the company in the tournament style bracket. The companies use this system to pick what producers they will use. Extension poultry specialist Ron Kean gives the details on the rule. He also explains why there has been pushback on this rule by the companies.

Wisconsin has recently had multiple confirmed cases of bird flu. Kean shares an update on how the industry is reacting as well as the worry of a mutation within the virus. Kean says that there is a possibility that the virus may mutate to be able to spread from human to human.
