Assembly Ag Chair Shares Thoughts On Economy & Budget Conversations
Manage episode 462515255 series 2908402
It’s only been a few weeks since state lawmakers were sworn in, but meetings with industry leaders and colleagues have already begun. Assembly Agriculture Committee Chair Travis Tranel joins us for our monthly update on the buzz around the Capitol.
At the Wisconsin Agriculture Outlook Forum, Tranel says it was refreshing to hear that urban and rural Wisconsin work in tandem to keep the state economy successful. For example, the supply chain takes rural products to urban processors and manufacturers. He says this message is an opportunity to bridge gaps between legislators that represent either/or.
When asked about the agricultural workforce, Tranel says he sees technology and efficiency as a solution for a shrinking labor market. He also is supportive of the state’s apprenticeship program.
This session, lawmakers will work on a state budget for the next two years. Tranel says from what he’s seen released so far from the governor’s office, the proposed spending amounts are not palatable for the Republican-led Legislature. He expects the Legislature to produce its own budget.
He says he’s proud of his working relationship with Wisconsin’s federal delegation in Congress. He says he and his constituents in Southwest Wisconsin are excited about the Trump administration’s “common sense” theme for the next four years.
