The Power of a Biblical Worldview, with Scott Nickell
Manage episode 440844272 series 1901470
Today's culture is attempting to push us off the path Jesus walked, and instead onto a wide road of personal preference and, “living your own truth.” We are increasingly encouraged to choose tolerance-based values and strike down our conceptions of right and wrong about sex, gender and marriage. Even the definitions of words are changing. If we take a step back, we can see how culture at large is twisting and affecting even those inside the church.
Join us for this episode of Locker Room, where our goal is to talk about the importance of choosing God’s Word to be our ultimate authority, which creates a filter (worldview) for how we interact with God and the world around us.
DISCUSSION GUIDE
Do you have any favorite old-school rappers? What music did you listen to in your younger days? Did you watch breakdancing in the Olympics? Could you win a dance battle?
The Bible tells us we have three enemies: Satan & demons, the flesh, and the World. How have these enemies affected your worldview? (Worldview defined by how you answer questions like: How did I get here? Who am I? Why am I here?)
Read Psalm 119:160, Proverbs 30:5-6, John 14:6. Our worldview is affected by where we find Truth. Do you believe the Bible is Truth? If yes, do your actions and beliefs line up with Biblical Truth? If no, where do you look for answers? What keeps you from believing the Bible?
Progressive Christianity seeks to unhitch itself from a Bible worldview to have a “seat at the cool kids table” - to earn the applause of people who do not love or follow Jesus. Why is this so dangerous?
Read Romans 1. How have you seen this progression of people worshiping created things over the creator leading to God giving them over to their sinful ways? How have you fallen victim to this in your life?
Jesus was radically inclusive and radically exclusive. Anybody can come follow Jesus, but they must submit to Him as King and His Word as truth. Does Jesus have complete authority over your life? What areas have you yet to submit to him?
Biblical worldview: “To see the world the way Jesus sees the world and to love the world the way Jesus loves the world”. Which of these is more challenging for you? How can you grow in that?
Read 2 Timothy 4:2-5. What avenues do you have to preach the word (don’t think about this being limited to a stage)? How can you prepare to speak the Truth to those around you?
How to build a Biblical Worldview? Start by reading the book of John, then the other Gospels. See how Jesus interacts with people, what he says, and what he does. Then work towards understanding the grand narrative of the Bible but regularly come back to the life of Jesus in the Gospels. What is your next step in building a Biblical Worldview?
Once you build a Biblical Worldview you then start to live your life according to that worldview. Looking at your life through that lens, what needs to be filtered out? What needs to change? What needs to be added?
What else from the podcast spoke to you?
What did God/Holy Spirit speak/prompt/say to you? What’s God asking you to do? What does He want to give you? What does He want you to lay down?
